More Money For Certain Families

One big change with third stimulus checks was that an extra $1,400 was tacked on to your payment for any dependent in the family. For the first- and second-round payments, the additional amount allowed $500 for first-round payments and $600 in the second round was only given for dependent children age 16 or younger. As a result, families with older children, including college students age 23 or younger, or with elderly parents living with them, didn’t get the extra money added to their previous stimulus payments. That’s not the case for third-round stimulus checks.

Nursing Homes And Assisted

Since the payment doesnt qualify as a resource for Medicaid purposes until 12 months after it was first received, nursing homes and assisted living facilities should not require residents to sign over their payment until this period has passed. If you believe a nursing home or assisted living facility has improperly taken the payment from you or a loved one, file a complaint with your states attorney general.

What About Social Security Beneficiaries

Many federal beneficiaries who filed 2019 or 2020 returns or used the Non-Filers tool last year were included in the first two batches of payments, if eligible, according to the IRS.

For federal beneficiaries who didnt file a 2019 or 2020 tax return or didnt use the Non-Filers tool, the IRS said it is working directly with the Social Security Administration, the Railroad Retirement Board and the Veterans Administration to obtain updated 2021 information to ensure that as many people as possible are sent automatic payments.

Social Security and other federal beneficiaries will generally receive this third payment the same way as their regular benefits, according to the agency.

More information about when these payments will be made will be provided on IRS.gov as soon as it becomes available, the IRS said.

State And Local Aid $745 Billion

Non-public

$0.4 bil.

At the outset of the pandemic, governments used the funds largely to cover virus-related costs.

As the months dragged on, they found themselves covering unexpected shortfalls created by the pandemic, including lost revenue from parking garages and museums where attendance dropped off. They also funded longstanding priorities like upgrading sewer systems and other infrastructure projects.

K-12 schools used early funds to transition to remote learning, and they received $122 billion from the American Rescue Plan that was intended to help them pay salaries, facilitate vaccinations and upgrade buildings and ventilation systems to reduce the viruss spread. At least 20 percent must be spent on helping students recover academically from the pandemic.

While not all of the state and local aid has been spent, the scope of the funding has been expansive:

Utah set aside $100 million for water conservation as it faces historic drought conditions.

Texas has designated $100 million to maintain the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin.

The San Antonio Independent School District in Texas plans to spend $9.4 million on increasing staff compensation, giving all permanent full-time employees a 2 percent pay raise and lifting minimum wages to $16 an hour, from $15.

Alabama approved $400 million to help fund 4,000-bed prisons.

Summerville, S.C., allocated more than $1.3 million for premium pay for essential workers.

Stimulus check 2021: Who gets one and when can you expect to receive the money?

The most recent checks were included in the American Rescue Plan, which was enacted on March 11, 2021. Eligible individuals will receive a payment of $1,400 , plus an additional $1,400 per eligible child. However, those payments phase out quickly for incomes above $75,000 for single taxpayers, above $112,500 for taxpayers filing as head of household, and above $150,000 for married couples filing jointly. Taxpayers would be ineligible for any payment, unless they have a qualifying child, above the following income levels:

  • $80,000 for single taxpayers
  • $120,000 for taxpayers filing as head of household
  • $160,000 for married couples filing jointly

Similar to previous iterations of the payments, most taxpayers will receive the funds by direct deposit. For Social Security and other beneficiaries who received previous payments via debit card, they will receive this third payment the same way. Overall, such payments are expect to cost $411 billion through 2030 according to the Congressional Budget Office.

What Is The Stimulus Check

As part of several different COVID-19 relief packages, the federal government issued three payments – by check or direct deposit to millions of income-qualified Americans. This is what we mean by stimulus check or stimulus payment. The purpose of the payments was to help people cover basic needs when many people were told to stay home and lost income because of the pandemic.

How Much Money Will I Get

  • Adults whose adjusted gross income is less than $75,000/year will get $1,400 for each adult, plus $1,400 for each dependent no matter how old they are. This applies to heads of households who make less than $112,500, as well.
  • The IRS will use income information from your 2020 tax return if they received that return before sending your money. Otherwise they will use information from your 2019 tax return.
  • If the IRS sends your payment based on a 2019 return and then your 2020 return says you qualify for more , they will send an additional payment to make up for the difference. To get the additional payment, you must file the 2020 tax return by 90 days from the filing deadline or September 1, 2021, whichever is earlier.
