The IRS will be responsible for making these stimulus payment checks and Treasury Secretary Mnuchin, whose department oversees the IRS, said that payments go out within a week of the bill being formally approved. This means payments could hit bank accounts before the end of the year. Payments would be made in multiple batches and if all goes according to plan the first round of payments would begin on 12/28 . Processing will go until January 15th for Direct Deposit payments. Checks and Debit Cards will take until the end of January 2020 to get processed. The inclusion of the one-time stimulus payment however has also meant a cut in extra unemployment benefits that are also part of the overall package. More to come as the bill gets finalized and I will post updates. See this $600 stimulus update video for a quick summary as well.

What Is The 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit

That’s the official name of the third round of stimulus checks authorized by lawmakers during the pandemic, providing up to $1,400 per eligible person, including qualifying children claimed on a tax return.

That means a family of four could qualify up to $5,600 in stimulus money, assuming they earn under the income limit for the program. Under the law, the full amount is available to single taxpayers who earn less than $75,000 and married couples who earn less than $150,000.

Payments are gradually phased out for people who earn above those thresholds.

Will There Be A New Stimulus Check For Fall 2022 Two Scenarios Why You May Get It

4th Stimulus Check Update 2022
  • 10:06 ET, Sep 14 2022

MANY Americans have been wondering if there will be another stimulus payment on its way this fall.

During the height of the pandemic, three stimulus checks were issued.

The first round was worth $1,200, followed by $600 and $1,400, respectively.

Currently, there is high inflation in the country and although a direct payment could help Americans offset costs a bit, it could also add to the inflationary spiral.

At the moment, a fourth stimulus payment seems unlikely to happen but there are a couple of scenarios in which it could.

How To Apply For An Installment Agreement

The easiest way to request an installment agreement is through the IRS Online Payment Agreement Program. If you qualify, you can apply for a payment plan online to pay off your balance overtime.

Once you complete your online application, the IRS will notify you immediately if your payment plan has been approved.

If you cant or you decide not to use the online system, you can request an installment agreement by filing the IRS Form 9465. In addition to the form, the IRS will ask you to send the required documentation to the address listed in the instructions.

Also, the IRS will need you to complete another form:

If the IRS approves your request for an installment agreement, make sure you pay on time every month. If you are unable to make a payment, contact the IRS immediately.

More Stimulus Checks Are Likelyjust Not Until The Next Recession

It took no time for Americans to get on board with stimulus checks. Back in March 2020, a Fortune-SurveyMonkey poll found that 89% of Democrats and 85% of Republicans supported a one-time direct payment. Its popularity didnt stop there: Democrats arguably used the promise of a $2,000 stimulus check to win the two Georgia Senate runoff races in January. Those victories, of course, gave Democrats control of the U.S. Senate and the power to pass the third check in March.

Those direct payments certainly had an impact on the broader economy. Look no further than a study by University of Michigan researchers that found the checks coincided with a drop in financial instability among recipients. However, the economic benefits arent why stimulus checks are poised to be a lasting policy creation of the COVID-19 recession. Instead, its the popularity and political power of the checks.

The politics of it suggest there will be future stimulus checks, Moodys Analytics chief economist Mark Zandi told Fortune this summer. Amid future recessions, Zandi says, lawmakers will surely face pressure from some voters to issue direct payments.

And its possible that could happen soon.

Some economists are fearing that the Federal Reserves action on interest rates could lead to a recession.

So far, the Fed has hiked interest rates four times this year in an effort to tame inflation.

And more hikes are likely on the way.

“Unless we see a rapid decline in the month-over-month inflation rate, well likely see the Fed raise interest rates again this year,” Laura Adams, a personal finance expert from Finder.com told The Sun in July.

“Higher interest rates make most types of credit such as credit cards, mortgages, and other business and personal loans cost more, which could lead to a recession,” she added.

As of August, the unemployment rate was sitting at 3.7% right around pre-pandemic levels but that could change.

Should the numbers tick up, this could force Biden and his Democratic to push publicly for another round of stimulus.

Minnesota: $750 Payments For Frontline Workers

Some frontline workers could receive a one-time payment of $750, thanks to a bill signed by Gov. Tim Walz in early May.

Eligible workers must have worked at least 120 hours in Minnesota between March 15, 2020 and June 30, 2021, and were not eligible for remote work. Workers with direct Covid-19 patient-care responsibilities must have had an annual income of less than $175,000 between Dec. 2019 and Jan. 2022 workers without direct patient-care responsibilities must have had an income of less than $85,000 annually for the same period. Applications for the payment are now closed.

Walz recently proposed using the states $7 billion budget surplus to fund a generous relief package, proposing that Minnesotans receive tax rebate checks of $1,000 per person. Doing so would require action from the state legislature.

Oregon: Direct Payments Of $600

In March 2022, the Oregon legislature voted to approve one-time $600 payments to some residents. Taxpayers who were eligible to receive the earned income tax credit on their 2020 state tax return, and who lived in Oregon for the last six months of 2020, were eligible to receive one payment per household.

The state used federal pandemic aid to provide these direct payments to low-income residents, and more than 236,000 households received a payment. All payments were distributed by direct deposit or mailed check between June 23 and July 1, 2022.

The Oregon Department of Revenue website contains FAQs for residents with concerns about receiving their payment.

Michigan Stimulus: Heres Who Gets A $1400 Check In 2022

Select Michiganders will receive additional stimulus money in 2022, which might sound surprising, but its true. Since the federal government isnt likely to send out a fourth stimulus check at this time, this is probably one of the last of the stimulus checks well see for a while. That said, keep an eye out if youre expecting one.

The checks will come in 2022, so not in time for the holidays, but they should add a nice cushion in the new year.

So, who qualifies? People eligible for additional relief money are parents who gave birth to a child in 2021. The parents are eligible to receive payments up to $1,400 from the third round of stimulus checks, which were issued in March. Its all part of legislation that was already passed, but new parents might not be aware they qualify, which is why were getting the word out. If you know of a new parent, let them know.

To get the payment, parents of the newborn child need to file a tax return for 2021 in 2022, so they can claim the money in 2022. Those eligible for the full $1,400 include single parents making up to $75,000 per year and couples earning up to $150,000 per year. As mentioned, these are likely the only stimulus checks people will receive in 2022.

Should I Hold Off On Filing My 2020 Tax Return And What Happens If The Irs Uses 2019 Tax Information

Some states considering stimulus checks to offset gas prices

It likely wont make a difference in the longer term other than to update dependent or payment data, but the IRS will only use your 2020 tax return data to determine eligibility for this round of stimulus checks if they have processed your return . If your 2020 return has not been filed and processing, they will use 2019 tax data for payment.

If your 2020 return is filed and/or processed after the IRS sends you a third stimulus check, but before July 15, 2021 the IRS would send you a second payment or require a repayment for the difference between what your payment should have been if based on your 2020 return and the payment actually sent based on your 2019 return.

South Carolina: State Tax Rebates

A large portion of personal state income taxes is headed back to South Carolina residents starting later this month and into December. Amounts will be up to $800, dependent on what the individual or couples filing jointly paid out of pocket.

Anyone who paid under $800 total will receive a full refund, which CNET says is 33% of residents. Residents who paid zero dollars in state income taxes will not get a refund.

What Is The Earned Income Tax Credit

The American Rescue Plan of 2021 also boosted the Earned Income Tax Credit, which has been available for decades and is aimed at helping low-income workers. Prior to the legislation, childless workers between 25 to 64 could only get up to $538, but the pandemic law boosted that to $1,502.

The law also increased the amount that can be claimed by working families with children, increasing it to as high as $6,728 for parents with three children.

Most people can claim the EITC if they earn under $21,430 for single taxpayers or $27,380 for married people filing jointly.

Th Stimulus Checks Given Out To Targeted Groups

Some states are digging into that wad of cash the government gave them and giving out the fourth stimulus checks to specific groups of people. The requirements look different for each state, but all seem to have a few things in commonlike falling into certain income levels or going through some kind of hardship.

The Grand Canyon State has a different take when it comes to stimulus checkstheyre giving them out to people who are going back to work. Arizonas Back to Work Program is offering $2,000 to those who got a job after being on unemployment.3 But you have to hold down your new job for at least eight weeks before getting the benefit.

The Golden State is the only one on the list to give out big ol broad-sweeping stimulus checks that look like the ones the federal government gave out. Heres how their numbers break down: Californians making $75,000 or less were sent a one-time check of $600 or $1,200 as part of the Golden State Stimulus I.4 And with the Golden State Stimulus II, they could be eligible for a second stimulus payment anywhere from $500 to $1,100.5 Thats on top of extra money the state paid out through the Young Child Tax Credit to those who have children age 6 or younger.6

These guys decided to shift their focus to giving their stimulus checks to the unemployed. They sent $375 to folks who had gotten at least one unemployment check payment between March 15, 2020, and October 24, 2020.7
