Are There Any Stimulus Checks Coming Your Way In October

Although the federal administration is staying off any further stimulus checks before the midterms, more states are mulling sending inflation relief payments to residents battling with rising prices of everything from gasoline to groceries.

With inflation touching 9.1% and consistently staying above 8.5% in the three quarters of 2022, it is apparent that the Biden administration will stay away from any move that could antagonize voters before the pandemic. but people are hurting badly and for many, the situation is as bad, if not worse, than the period immediately after the pandemic when the total shutdown led to a social and economic crisis.

Americans in their millions were facing the prospect of starvation, loan defaults, and homelessness. For the first time in memory, the whole nation had come to a standstill. The economic downslide will take years to correct itself. And only a quick opening up of the economy could have achieved that.

The successive stimulus checks, especially the Economic Impact Payment under incoming President Joe Biden proved to be a game-changer. The previous two rounds of stimulus checks had helped Americans stay just above the sustenance level. it helped them buy essentials and gasoline, pay their utility bills, and pay their home rent and mortgage amounts.

Other Tax Relief For New Mexico Residents

  • Exemption of most Social Security income from state taxation
  • Reduction in the stateâs gross receipts tax rate to 5%

Can I File My Taxes With A Paper Return

Yes, however it is not recommended. If you have not filed your taxes yet and still need to, file electronically if possible. IRS processing of paper returns is delayed due to COVID-19. You can use GetCTC.org if you arent normally required to file taxes, and get support from the chat function on the site, where you can communicate with an IRS-certified volunteer to help you complete the form. GetCTC.org is available through November 15, 2021.

If you must file a paper return, you can download the tax forms from IRS.gov or use an online tax software program to complete your return and print it instead of filing electronically. If you need to file a paper return and do not have internet access, ask a trusted friend or relative for help.

Update: If you received monthly child tax credit advance payments this year, be on the lookout for Letter 6419 the IRS started mailing out in December. The form lists the total amount of advance payments you received, and youll need it to file your 2021 taxes and receive the other half of your child tax credit.

If I Take the Advance Payment, How Does This Affect Next Years Taxes? All right, you guys, if you have kids like me, listen up: Some of you are going to get cash in your hands every month for the rest of 2021 thanks to the increased Child Tax Credit. I know what youre thinking: Isnt the Child Tax Credit just given out at tax time? And the answer isyep, normally thats how it works. But not this year. Which makes sense, because theres been a lot of extra money from the government lately.

First, there was stimulus number one, then number two, and then number threeand now the first of the Child Tax Credit payments just went out, and theyll keep coming for the rest of the year.

A lot of you still have questions about it, so lets talk about what the new beefed-up Child Tax Credit means for you and your money.

Pros Of Taking The Monthly Child Tax Credit Payments

  • You can use the money now. If youre having a hard time making ends meet, this is a great way to have extra cash flow to keep a roof over your head and feed your family.
  • You can keep more money in your own pocket during the year. And Im a really big fan of thatbut only if it doesnt create a tax mess for you when it comes time to file your 2021 taxes.
  • You dont have to jump through any extra hoops. If youve filed your taxes in 2019 or 2020 and want to get the advance child tax payments, you dont have to do anything else or sign up for anything. Youre automatically enrolled and are all set.
  • You wont have that lump sum. We know some people like to use their tax refund as a glorified savings account. They get a big refund and cant wait to spend it on something theyve wanted all year. But if youve been around here for a while, youve heard me tell you to set up your tax withholding so that youre getting the most money you can in your paycheck. Which means youll be getting less money in your tax return each year . But keeping more money in your actual paycheck means you can put your hard-earned dollars toward your goals now. Its silly to let the government hang on to your money until tax time. Its your money!

Alaska Dividend: 2022 Details

What

In 2021, the PFD amount was $1,114, and for a short time, it seemed as though Alaskans might receive as much as $5,500 from the state in 2022. When oil prices climbed after Russias invasion of Ukraine, Alaska, a top oil producing state, anticipated a surge in revenue. Whats more, in an election year, some lawmakers apparently felt pressure to follow through on campaign promises to deliver a large dividend.

The Alaska Senate passed a budget that would include a $4,200 PFD and a $1,300 energy relief payment. However, the price tagan estimated $3.6 billionwas too much for a majority of members in the House to stomach.

Instead, the final budget approved by state legislators included $3.4 billion from the Permanent Fund, which was split between dividends to residents and the general fund. It also added a $650 energy relief payment to the 2022 PFD for a total expected payment for individuals of $3,200.

Alaskans have waited seven long years to receive a fair and sizable dividend, and it couldnt have come at a more important time, said Gov. Mike Dunleavy in a press release.

Currently, the annual payment amount is set by legislators, something Dunleavy called an arbitrary political process in his statement. He said a better approach would be to amend the Alaska Constitution to include a funding formula.

Fourth Stimulus Check Amount

The fourth stimulus check amount depends on several factors. If passed, it would probably look similar to the previous checks, although that’s not guaranteed.

For reference, the first stimulus check amounted to as much as $1,200, while the second stimulus check brought $600 to eligible Americans. The third stimulus check, which the IRS is still in the process of distributing, is worth up to $1,400 per person, although the eligibility requirements are narrower.

All three checks gave the full amounts to taxpayers who made up to $75,000 a year, according to their most recent tax returns. Couples filing jointly got the full payment if they had a joint total income of $150,000 or less.

With the first two checks, those making up to $99,000 alone or $198,000 as a couple received prorated payments. With the third check, individuals who earned more than $80,000 per year or $160,000 per year as joint filers got nothing.
