Youll need to know the total amount of your third stimulus check payment and any plus up payments actually paid to claim the recovery rebate tax credit on your 2021 tax return. You can get this information from a few different sources. First, you should have received Notice 1444-C from the IRS shortly after receiving your third stimulus payment. If you received a joint payment with your spouse, the notice shows the total amount of the payment. If youre married but file separate 2021 tax returns, each spouse must enter half of the payment amount shown on Notice 1444-C. People who received a plus-up payment should have received a separate Notice 1444-C after your payment was sent. Save Notice 1444-C with your other tax records.

Adults will receive an additional $500 for every qualifying child age 16 or under, and married couples without children earning below a certain threshold will receive a total of up to $2,400. You do not need to apply to receive a payment.

When Will You Get Your Money
The exact date youll receive your money depends on your circumstances, but the IRS has already begun sending electronic payments to millions of Americans.
The speed with which youll receive your payment largely depends on how you filed your taxes. The IRS can distribute electronic payments quickly, but they must print and mail paper checks for some recipients, which takes additional time.
On April 15th, the IRS launched a portal to track the status of your stimulus payment. To track your payment, youll need your social security number, your birthday, your address and your zip code provided you filed your 2019 or 2018 tax return. If you are a qualified non-filer, there are additional links on the IRSs website to input your information so you can still receive your check.
On April 2, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said that eligible Americans who have signed up for direct deposit payments should receive them within two weeks, a process which is already underway. A spokesperson for the Treasury Department expects 50 million to 70 million Americans to receive their checks via direct deposit by April 15, according to The Washington Post.
However, if you didnt sign up for direct deposit when filing your tax return and require a paper check, you might experience some delays. In fact, because the government lacks banking information for millions of Americans, $30 million in paper checks wont begin distribution until April 24, or longer.
What Information Will You Need
To access the tool, youll be asked to provide a:
- Street address and
- Five-digit ZIP or postal code.
If you file a joint tax return, either spouse can typically access the portal by providing their own information for the security questions used to verify a taxpayers identity. Once verified, the same payment status is shown for both spouses. In some cases, however, married couples who file a joint tax return may get their third stimulus payment as two separate payments half may come as a direct deposit and the other half will be mailed to the address the IRS has on file. If that case, each spouse should check the Get My Payment tool separately using their own Social Security number to see the status of their payments.
If you submit information that doesnt match the IRSs records three times within a 24-hour period, youll be locked out of the portal for 24 hours . Youll also be locked out if youve already accessed the system five times within a 24-hour period. Dont contact the IRS if youre shut out. Instead, just wait 24 hours and try again.

Requirements To Receive The Third Stimulus Check
In general, low- and middle-income US citizens are eligible. As established by the IRS, this help is intended for people who earn less than $75,000 of adjusted gross income, heads of households who earn less than $112,500 and married couples who file jointly who earn less than $150,000 . How Much Were The Stimulus Checks
The first round of stimulus checks were paid to people beginning in April 2020. Those checks were up to $1,200 per eligible adult and up to $500 for each dependent child under 16.
The second round of stimulus checks were paid to people beginning in December 2020. Those checks were up to $600 per eligible adult and up to $600 for each dependent child under 17.
The third round of stimulus checks were paid to people beginning in March 2021. Those checks were up to $1,400 per eligible adult and up to $1,400 for each dependent child, regardless of age.
What If My Dependent Died Since I Filed Taxes Last
With the first check, if a child dependent who was listed on your last tax return has since died, its likely you will be sent the extra payment, as was the case for the first two checks. However, a payment made to someone who died before they received it should be returned to the IRS. You also cant claim a stillborn child as a dependent, according to the IRS.

The 2021 Stimulus Payment
On March 11, 2021, the American Rescue Plan was signed into law. It called for sending a third round of stimulus checks to Americans. This is when the first stimulus check was delivered:
