Ohio Stimulus Payments: Who Will Receive These $350 Checks

Some states considering stimulus checks to offset gas prices

Find out if you’re eligible to receive a $350 rebate

Despite an increase in interest rates, inflation continues to be a problem for the average American. Basic necessities such as gas and groceries have become much more expensive in the USA, with the pinch of the increased cost of living being felt by the nation’s citizens.

With inflation reaching a 40-year high, the elected representatives of each state have moved to ease the burden of these price hikes by introducing stimulus payments.

The latest state to follow suit with stimulus payments is Ohio, with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Nan Whaley announcing her plan to provide the citizens of Ohio with a rebate of $350.

“Ohioans are hurting right now, whether it’s from high gas prices to increased costs at the grocery store,” Whaley stated.

“Governor DeWine should be doing everything in his power to help ease those costs as corporate profits soar, yet we’ve seen time and again he’s more interested in taking care of his special interest donors and friends.

“When I’m governor, Ohio’s families will be my top priority. That’s why I’m proposing an inflation rebate of $350 per person, or $700 per couple, for middle-class Ohioans to offset high gas prices and other rising costs.”

Is Your State Offering Hero Pay Stimulus Or Rebate Checks

Americans in some parts of the country are getting extra cash to help offset still-blistering inflation, with at least 21 states and one city offering financial relief to residents grappling with higher food, gas and rent.

Although consumer prices cooled slightly in July, they still rose 8.5% last month from a year ago near a four-decade high and more than quadruple the Federal Reserve’s target of 2%. Here’s what one mayor, governors and state lawmakers are offering help to taxpayers in their city and states.

California: Up To $1050 Rebate

Californias new budget includes payments of $350 for individual taxpayers who make $75,000 or less. Couples filing jointly will receive $700 if they make no more than $150,000 annually. Eligible households will also receive an additional $350 if they have qualifying dependents.

Taxpayers with incomes between $75,000 and $250,000 will receive a phased benefit with a maximum payment of $250. Those households can get up to an additional $250 if they have eligible dependents.

Californians can expect to receive payments between October 2022 and January 2023 via direct deposit and debit cards.

Video: Inflation Stimulus Checks Could Reach Ohioans If This Gubernatorial Candidate Is Elected

DAYTON, Ohio On Wednesday, Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Nan Whaley announced her plan to help defray increased costs, from gas to groceries, by providing Ohio families with an inflation rebate of $350.

With $350, every Ohioan who is eligible would have money back in their pocket to help account for the increasingly high cost of gas and other everyday goods, Whaley said on Wednesday. This money will become available to incumbent Governor Mike DeWine and the State of Ohio in the next few weeks, and Whaley is urging DeWine to use the money to help offset the pressure from increased costs that Ohioans across the state are experiencing.

When asked by the Guardian on Wednesday where the money would come from, Whaley said the state is set to receive the money anyway, and while the current administration has not publicly stated how they will spend the billions, Whaley said she would put it in the pockets of Ohioans who are struggling.

Ohio is set to receive $2.68 billion in the next round of federal funding from the American Rescue Plan. The rebate would go to roughly 7.4 million Ohioans, the same individuals who received economic impact payments, and which accounts for 89 percent of adults in the state. Individuals making up to $80,000 a year or couples making $160,000 a year or under would be eligible to receive the rebate, at $350 or $700, respectively, Whaley said.

Energy Rebate Checks To Americans Similar To Third Stimulus Payment

One proposal by Reps. Mike Thompson of California, John Larson of Connecticut and Lauren Underwood of Illinois would send what they call an energy rebate of $100 per month for individuals or $200 to couples, plus $100 for each dependent, for each month the national gas price exceeds $4 per gallon. The rebate would be in effect though the end of 2022.

The payments would go to people based on their income and would follow the same guidelines as the 2021 Economic Impact Payments: Single filers earning up to $75,000 or married couples filing jointly earning up to $150,000 would be eligible.

A statement on Thompson’s website did not explain how it would be paid for.

Who Would Get These 350 Dollar Checks In Ohio

Ohio will receive the funds soon, but the current governor has not revealed his plans on how his administration intends to spend the aforementioned amount.

Meanwhile, Whaley has suggested that single residents should receive a 350 dollar stimulus payment, with joint filers getting double that figure, which is 700 dollars.

The income limit for single filers would be set at 80,000 dollars and for joint filers it would be 160,000 dollars.

For the proposal to be passed, Whaley needs to win the election which doesn’t take place until Tuesday, November 8, 2022. However, a recent poll gave the incumbent Governor DeWine a 19-point lead over Whaley.

The winner of the 2022 gubernatorial election will not be sworn before January 9, 2023.

Who Was Eligible To Receive A Stimulus Payment

Generally, U.S. citizens and green card holders were eligible for the stimulus payments. Also, a 2021 law expanded who was eligible for a stimulus payment.

In the first round of payments, joint returns of couples where only 1 member of the couple had a Social Security number were not eligible for a payment unless they were a member of the military. Under a 2021 law, these families became eligible to receive a stimulus payment, including the additional payment for their dependent children.

The 2021 law also made this expansion retroactive to the first round of stimulus payments. If your family did not receive the first stimulus payment because only 1 spouse had an SSN, you could claim the Recovery Rebate Credit when you filed your 2020 federal income tax return.

Why People Believe President Joe Biden Could Make A Fourth Stimulus Check Possible

$6 DOLLARS Per Gallon Of Gas In LA, Congress Proposes MORE Stimulus Checks

According to 1945, the possibility of a stimulus check happening exists, but if it did it wouldnt happen for quite some time.

The chatter started back in February when a false claim was shared on social media.

The claim stated the President Joe Biden had approved a fourth stimulus check, but the claim was quickly proven false.

The way the rumor spread so easily and quickly showed that Americans felt a desperate need for financial assistance.

Inflation has created major financial struggles for Americans as food and gas become almost unaffordable to many.

In 2021, some politicians were putting effort into another stimulus package that would help struggling people.

The responsibility of this, according to the White House press secretary back then was that Congress needed to create a plan.

She added that the stimulus checks that have been sent are not free.

This indicated financially, it may not be possible.

At the end of it all, no fourth stimulus check was approved, and there have been no reasons given for anyone to think one will be.

This doesnt mean it cant ever happen.

Can My Stimulus Check Be Garnished

In most cases, no. Most individuals and families should have received a stimulus payment, even if you owe back taxes or other debts to the government or creditors. Ohio law also protects your stimulus check from being garnished by creditors and private debt collectors.

If you owe back child support, the CARES Act allowed a reduction or offset to your first stimulus payment for back child support. However, your second and third stimulus payments can’t be garnished for back child support.

Which States And Cities Are Giving Out Gas Stimulus Checks

Even though the federal government hasnt passed the Gas Rebate Act of 2022, some states are thinking about giving out their own gas stimulus checks. The list isnt very long, but heres who has jumped on the bandwagon so far to help people save money on gas with rebates.

California tried to make its own version of a gas stimulus happen. Governor Gavin Newsom wanted every California household with a registered car to get a $400 gas debit card. But that plan fell through, and the state compromised by pausing the gas tax on diesel fuel and by giving out inflation relief checks of $1,050.4,5

The Windy City is taking matters into its own hands and giving out its own version of gas stimulus checks in the form of prepaid gas cards. The city has 50,000 prepaid gas cards of $150 and 100,000 prepaid transit cards of $50 up for grabs.6 But theres one exception hereits all luck of the draw. Anyone whos interested has to submit their application on the Chicago Moves website to have a chance of being selected.

Theres a proposal on the table in North Carolina that would give $200 to every driver in the Tar Heel State. Residents would have to be at least 18 years old and have a drivers license .7

Indiana: $325 Rebate Payments

Like Georgia, Indiana found itself with a healthy budget surplus at the end of 2021, and it has authorized two rebates to its residents.

In Dec. 2021, Gov. Eric Holcomb announced that Indiana taxpayers would get a $125 one-time tax refund after they filed their 2021 taxes.

Theres no income requirement. Residents must have filed a state tax return for the year 2020 by Jan. 3, 2022, as well as a 2021 Indiana tax return by April 18, 2022, to be eligible. Payments started in May, according to a state information page.

Taxpayers who filed jointly will receive a single deposit of $250.

A second rebate was approved in August 2022 to grant another $200 per taxpayer.

Most taxpayers will receive their refunds by direct deposit, and the second payments started rolling out in late August. If you changed banks or dont have direct deposit information on file, youll receive a paper check. A printing delay put mailing the first round on hold for several months, but mailing resumed in mid-August. Checks mailed after that point contain payments for both rebates, for a total of $325 per taxpayer.

Distribution of printed checks is expected to take place through early October. If you did not file your 2021 tax return by the April deadline, you can claim your $125 rebate on your 2022 taxes.

For more information, visit the state Department of Revenue website.
