When Will My Third Stimulus Check Arrive
The Treasury Department already started delivering the third round of $1,400 stimulus payments on the weekend of March 13-14. But many taxpayers will not receive payment from their bank until March 17, which is the effective date when banks get the money from the government.
The IRS will make third stimulus payments via direct deposit first. Those who have their bank account on file with the IRS based on a tax return from 2020 of 2019 will get payments earlier. Paper checks and prepaid debit cards will be mailed after.
For reference, the direct deposit payments for the second stimulus check started arriving as early as December 29, two days after President Donald Trump signed the $900 billion economic relief and government funding bill. And paper checks were mailed out on December 30.
Anyone who receives Social Security retirement benefits, Social Security survivor benefits, Social Security disability benefits, Supplemental Security Income , Railroad Retirement benefits or VA benefits and has their bank account on-file with the IRS will also get their check via direct deposit.
Note that the IRS has said that there could be processing delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As many as eight million eligible recipients may have not received their first or second stimulus checks as of January 2021. And President Biden signed an executive order on January 22, asking the Treasury Department to deliver direct payments to all of those qualifying recipients.
What Can I Do If I Have Not Received My Eip Money By Those Deadlines
If you have not received all or some portion of your Economic Impact Payments by the deadlines above, you will have to file a 2020 tax return and claim these amounts. You claim them on line 30 of the 2020 Form 1040 as a “Recovery Rebate Credit“. This is another name for the EIP stimulus payments. If you did not get all or a portion of the EIP payments in advance, then you can claim them on line 30 of your tax return for 2020.

Yes, you can use your 2019 tax return. The IRS emphasizes that if you use your 2020 return to estimate your payment, dont guess your AGI: File an accurate return first. Adjusted gross income, as the name implies, is your gross income minus certain adjustments such as educator expenses, student loan interest, alimony payments and qualifying contributions to retirement accounts. You can find AGI on line 11 of your 2020 federal 1040 income tax return or line 8b of your 2019 return.

Who Is Eligible For The Second Stimulus Check

Eligibility is primarily based on four requirements:
1. Income: The income requirements to receive the full payment are the same as the first stimulus check.There is no minimum income needed to qualify for the payment. Households with adjusted gross income up to $75,000 for individuals will receive the full payment. This stimulus payment starts to phaseout for people with higher earnings. The second stimulus check maximum income limit is lower than the first stimulus check. Single filers who earned more than $87,000 in 2019 are ineligible for the second stimulus check.

2. Social Security Number: This requirement differs from the original eligibility for the first stimulus check. Originally under the first stimulus check, if you were married filing jointly, both spouses needed valid Social Security numbers . If one spouse had an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number , then both spouses were ineligible for the stimulus check. For married military couples, the spouse with an SSN could still get the stimulus check for themselves but not the other spouse with an ITIN.

Who Is Eligible For Each Stimulus Check
American citizens earning less than $75,000 a year will receive the full $600.
Heads of household earning less than $112,500 and married couples filing jointly earning less than $150,000 are also due the full amount.
Checks will be distributed to “mixed-status” immigrant families families where American citizens are married to immigrants without Green Card, an issue that lawmakers rectified from the first round of payments.
Children under 17 years old will also receive the same $600 payment as adults, but “child dependents” who are 17 years old will not.
No adult dependents, namely college students who are claimed as dependents by their parents, will qualify for the $600 checks, according to the Tax Foundation.
Seniors and disabled adults that claim dependency will also not be receiving a check.
