Colorado intends to send payments of at least $500 to taxpayers this year, after Gov. Jared Polis signed a bill in late May.
The exact amount depends on state revenue totals, but lawmakers expect every full-time resident who files a 2021 tax return before June 30 will receive a payment in September.

What Can I Do If The Amount Of My Stimulus Payment Is Wrong
If you didnt get the additional $500 for your children or didnt get the full payment amount that you expected based on your eligibility, you can get the additional amount by filing a 2020 tax return or use GetCTC.org if you dont have a filing requirement.
If you receive Social Security, Social Security Disability Insurance , or Supplemental Security Insurance OR are a railroad retiree or Veterans Affairs beneficiary, and didnt get the first stimulus check or the full amount you are eligible for, you will also have to file a 2020 tax return or use GetCTC.org if you dont have a filing requirement.

Stimulus And Relief Package 35
A supplementary stimulus package, nicknamed Phase 3.5, was signed into law on April 24, 2020. It appropriated $484 billion, mostly to replenish the PPP and the EIDL, and contained additional funding for hospitals and COVID-19 testing.
Another supplementary measure, the Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act of 2020, which modified the PPP, was signed into law on June 5, 2020. It made the following changes to the program:
- It allowed businesses 24 weeks to spend the money, up from the initial eight-week period
- It lowered the requirements for loan forgiveness. Businesses now had to spend only 60% of their PPP funds on payroll, instead of the 75% previously required.
- The payment deferment period was extended from six months to when the borrower finds out the amount of their loan forgiveness
- It allowed businesses that received PPP loans to delay paying payroll taxes
- It allowed businesses loan forgiveness if they didnât rehire workers who refused good-faith offers of reemployment or were unable to restore operations to levels before the COVID-19 pandemic
- It gave businesses until the end of 2020 to restore their payrolls to precrisis levels
- It increased the loan maturity of PPP loans taken out after June 5, 2020, to five years
- It extended the time that borrowers have to pay back unforgiven parts of the loan
Will There Be A Fourth Federal Stimulus Check
As of July 2022, the federal government doesnt appear to have any plans to send a fourth stimulus check to all U.S. residents. The Biden administration has not made an appeal to Congress about a fourth stimulus payment, but legislative gridlock as the 2022 midterms approach all but assures any such proposal would be dead on arrival.

How To Claim The Recovery Rebate Credit On A Tax Return
You will need to file your recovery rebate worksheet along with your 2020 or 2021 federal tax return, whichever is applicable. If you file your return using any of the best tax preparation software on the market, the program will guide you through the worksheet.
âWhen you file your 2020 or 2021 tax return, youâll have to report the stimulus checks you received with the recovery rebate credit you are entitled to claim,â says Samantha Hawkins, a certified public accountant and founder of Hawkins CPA Solutions in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
You can find the amount of your first stimulus payment on your Notice 1444, which was mailed by the IRS. The tax agency followed up with a Notice 1444-B for the second stimulus round and Notice 1444-C for the third.

If you got less than the full stimulus payment for any of the rounds, the worksheet asks you questions about your income. In some cases, you may be entitled to claim an additional stimulus payment.

What About People With Itins
You still need a work-authorizing Social Security Number to be eligible for this stimulus. However, there are important changes since the first round of stimulus checks.
- In the first stimulus rollout, any non-SSN holder on a joint return made everyone on that return ineligible. Big change: The new rounds of stimulus has corrected this problem. If you filed a joint return with a non-SSN holder, you are still eligible for the stimulus. See the below hypotheticals.
- Situation: A single tax filer has an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number but no Social Security number .
- This person is ineligible for the stimulus.

Will there be damage to my credit report if I take advantage of any virus-related payment relief, including the student loan suspension?
No. There is not supposed to be, at least.
The bill states that during the period beginning on Jan. 31 and continuing 120 days after the end of the national emergency declaration, lenders and others should mark your credit file as current, even if you take advantage of payment modifications.

First Round Of Economic Stimulus Checks: April 2020
The CAREs Act included a provision for a round of stimulus payments eligible tax-paying adults received a check of up to $1,200 while eligible dependents under 16 years of age received $500 each .
The payments were made to everyone earning under the income limits, which were set at Adjusted Gross Income of $75,000 with the stimulus check value reducing in a tapered fashion up to a maximum of $99,000 . The very first stimulus checks were paid into people’s bank accounts over the weekend of the 11 and 12 of April, either via direct deposit into individuals bank accounts, paper checks sent through the post or in some cases, through a prepaid debit card, the Economic Impact Payment Card which were sent out in late May/early June last year.

The Third Round Of Stimulus Checks
The most recent checks were included in the American Rescue Plan, which was enacted on March 11, 2021. Eligible individuals will receive a payment of $1,400 , plus an additional $1,400 per eligible child. However, those payments phase out quickly for incomes above $75,000 for single taxpayers, above $112,500 for taxpayers filing as head of household, and above $150,000 for married couples filing jointly. Taxpayers would be ineligible for any payment, unless they have a qualifying child, above the following income levels:
- $80,000 for single taxpayers
- $120,000 for taxpayers filing as head of household
- $160,000 for married couples filing jointly
Similar to previous iterations of the payments, most taxpayers will receive the funds by direct deposit. For Social Security and other beneficiaries who received previous payments via debit card, they will receive this third payment the same way. Overall, such payments are expect to cost $411 billion through 2030 according to the Congressional Budget Office.
What Else Is In The Bill
The $1.9 trillion bill proposal is about more than just relief checks. Some of the other notable parts of the bill include:
- Funding for COVID-19 testing, vaccine distribution, and development of a COVID-19 tracking and warning system to monitor its variants and other biological threats.
- Extension of Pandemic Unemployment Assistance , Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation , and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation from March 14, 2021 to September 6, 2021. The FPUC unemployment benefits will continue to be $300 per week.
- Mandatory coverage of COVID-19 vaccines, administration of vaccines, and treatment under Medicaid and the Childrens Health Insurance Program .
- Support for a variety of emergency assistance and grant programs.

The Latest On $1400 Stimulus Checks
This tax season, the government is also issuing a third tranche of third stimulus checks for up to $1,400 per individual, plus $1,400 per eligible dependent.
Last week, the IRS and other agencies said about 127 million checks have been sent to date, for a total of approximately $325 billion.
Those $1,400 payments are generally based on 2019 or 2020 tax returns, whichever was most recently filed and processed by the IRS. Those who used the IRS non-filer tool last year should also automatically get their payments.
There are also advantages to filing a 2020 return in order to receive the $1,400 payment, according to the IRS.
If your income dropped from 2019 to 2020, you could be eligible for a larger payment. The IRS has said it may potentially send follow-on payments to those people after their 2020 tax returns are processed.
Filing a 2020 tax return also lets you update your direct deposit information.
This tax season, non-filers are also required to file a tax return in order to get their payment, provided they have not already submitted their information to the government.
Of note, people who receive federal benefits such as Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, Railroad Retirement Board and Veterans Affairs will generally receive their stimulus checks automatically, though there have been delays in processing some of those payments.
If You Miss Out This Year
If you receive no $1,400 payment or a reduced check, but your income changes, you may be able to claim the money you are due when you file your taxes next year.
Any change, either a slight reduction in earnings or even just putting more money in a traditional IRA or a 401 could yield a much bigger total payment when they do their 2021 taxes, said Garrett Watson, senior policy analyst at the Tax Foundation.
Theres a subset of folks who will be in that situation, Watson said.
That also goes for this years tax-filing season for people who missed out on the previous $1,200 or $600 payments. You can claim a recovery rebate credit to recoup any money you were possibly owed. This is also available to people who typically do not file tax returns because their income is too low.
