Hawaiians should start seeing direct deposits of a one-time tax refund on Friday, according to Gov. David Ige. Close to $300 million is being returned to taxpayers, Ige told KHON. Those who earned less than $100,000 will get $300, while residents making more than $100,000 will receive $100.A qualifying family of four could receive $1,200.

The Aloha State isn’t the only one giving money back to taxpayers this month: In Illinois, residents will start receiving tax rebate checks worth up to $400 next week. And in Colorado, refund checks for $750 — or $1,500 for joint filers — have been trickling into mailboxes since August, thanks to the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights Amendment, and should be done by the end of this month.

Which other states are issuing payments? How much can eligible taxpayers get? When will the money arrive? Read on to find out.

  • The signature came one day after it passed the House.

Known as the American Rescue Plan, the $1.9 trillion bill shores up and builds upon previous COVID-19 spending bill provisions. But while the $2.2 trillion CARES Act that passed almost a year ago had significant buy-in from both parties, the American Rescue Plan passed solely with Democratic votes in both the House and Senate. The bill passed the House with all Republicans voting against it, and all but one House Democrat supported the plan. Within the Texas delegation, the vote was party line. On Saturday, both of the state’s Republican senators, John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, voted against the bill.

The bill’s scope is sweeping. Broadly speaking, it will distribute stimulus checks as large as $1,400 to millions of Americans, another $350 billion to cities and states that experienced declines in tax revenue and increases in expenses, and $130 billion toward education. The bill also funds an additional $300 in unemployment payments per week until early September.

U.S. Rep. Al Green, a Houston Democrat, touted his contributions into the bill of money for small-business lending and toward enforcing fair housing.

    Idaho: $75 Rebate Payments

In February, Idaho Gov. Brad Little signed a bill that allocated $350 million for tax rebates to Idahoans. There were two criteria for eligibility:

The payments began in March. Each taxpayer received either $75 or 12% of your 2020 Idaho state taxes, whichever is greater . The rebate was applicable to each individual taxpayer and each dependent.

The tax commission first issued rebates to taxpayers who received refunds via direct deposit, then sent paper rebate checks.

In a special session on Sept. 1, Idaho lawmakers voted to authorize another tax rebate for all residents who filed state tax returns in 2020. Individual filers will receive $300, and couples filing jointly will get $600.

The funds come from the states $2 billion budget surplus. The payments are slated to roll out within weeks, according to a report by the Idaho Press.

State residents can also check the status of their rebate online.

    • In some instances, the IRS offsets a portion of the payment sent to a spouse who filed an injured spouse claim if it has been offset by the non-injured spouses past-due child support. The FAQ on the IRS stimulus FAQ www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payment-information-center website states: The IRS is aware that in some instances a portion of the payment sent to a spouse who filed an injured spouse claim with his or her 2019 tax return has been offset by the non-injured spouses past-due child support. The IRS is working with the Bureau of the Fiscal Service and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Child Support Enforcement, to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. If you filed an injured spouse claim with your return and are impacted by this issue, you do not need to take any action. The injured spouse will receive their unpaid half of the total payment when the issue is resolved.
