Will There Be An Irs 4th Stimulus Check

WNCT NOW Evening: All NC adults eligible for vaccine latest stimulus update

It looks unlikely that there will be another stimulus payment from the federal government at this point. While some politicians in Congress are still pushing for more relief, most are of the belief that we probably wont see anymore COVID stimulus checks. At least not unless there is another wave that causes more lockdowns or closures.

Although the federal government may be unlikely to act, some states are continuing to provide additional relief to their residents through stimulus payments and tax rebates. There are also many states looking at providing gas stimulus checks to combat the rising oil prices. Make sure you stay updated on any developments that might mean more money for you!

Who Is Eligible For A 4th Stimulus Check

Whether you are eligible for a 4th stimulus check depends on your adjusted gross income as reported on your tax return. This means that the IRS will look at what you reported on your previous tax return and determine your eligibility. The determination is made based on your most recent return filed with the IRS.

Anyone with adjusted gross income of less than $75,000 or $150,000 were eligible to receive the full amount of the stimulus.

If your adjusted gross income was above $75,000 and $99,000 or $150,000 to $198,000 , the amount of stimulus you receive will be reduced.

If your adjusted gross income was equal to or higher than $99,000 or $198,000 , you were not eligible to receive any stimulus payments.

What If My Financial Situation Changed Since I Filed My Last Tax Return

My clients commonly ask me what it means if their financial situation changed since they filed their last tax return. You might have made a lot of money in one year and then your income dropped drastically in the next year. This is not an uncommon fact pattern, particularly for people who were not able to work or lost their jobs because of the COVID 19 pandemic.

If your situation has changed and you are eligible for one or more of the stimulus payments, you should claim what is called the Recovery Rebate Credit on your tax return. This credit can be claimed on your 2020 or 2021 tax return.

Make sure you let your CPA or tax preparer know that you are eligible for the credit and did not previously receive any checks from the IRS. The credit is claimed on Line 30 of your Form 1040: U.S. Individual Income Tax Return.

You are only able to receive 1 payment for each of the 3 stimulus checks that were sent out. That means if you already received your 3 stimulus checks, you are not allowed to also claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your tax return.

Stimulus Check Update: Will North Carolina Offer Their Own Stimulus Payment

If Gov. Roy Cooper has his way, North Carolina would become the newest state to send out coronavirus stimulus checks to its residents.

Cooper has proposed disbursing these checks that would be from the states share of funds from President Joe Bidens $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan. He is seeking to tap into $250 million of the $5.7 billion allotted to the state to further financially assist low- and middle-income families.

Under the plan, married couples filing jointly with incomes up to $30,000 would receive $500, while couples making between $30,000 and $60,000 would net $250.

Moreover, individuals earning up to $15,000 would get a $500 payment, while those making between $15,000 and $30,000 would receive $250.

We decided we would propose an income limit because we need to try to get the money to the families that need it most, and plus it can make that payment to those families larger, Cooper said, per WNCN.

The governor has dubbed his proposal Extra Credit Grants 2.0, acknowledging that he wanted to continue the program Republicans in the General Assembly approved last year, when they approved $335 checks for families with children.

This is a good idea put forth by the legislature. It has helped a lot of families, Cooper said.

We included this in our proposal because of the input we got from a number of legislators that they would like to continue it, he added.

How Will The Irs Calculate My Payment

The American Rescue Plan provides that if your 2020 tax return is not filed and processed by the time the IRS starts processing your third stimulus payment, the tax agency will use information from your 2019 tax return. If your 2020 return is already filed and processed when the IRS is ready to send your payment, then your stimulus check eligibility and amount will be based on information from your 2020 return.

If your 2020 return is filed and/or processed after the IRS sends you a stimulus check, but before July 15, 2021 , the IRS will send you a second payment for the difference between what your payment should have been if based on your 2020 return and the payment sent based on your 2019 return. Most people do not need to take any action. The IRS will calculate and automatically send the payment to those eligible.

Fourth Stimulus Check North Carolina Governor Wants To Send Some Residents Up To $500

Millions of Americans have called for the federal government to dole out additional stimulus checks, and many residents in North Carolina may receive one if a proposal from Governor Roy Cooper goes through.

Cooper, a Democrat, proposed this week that North Carolina’s government give out direct payments of up to $500 to numerous North Carolina residents. The governor has called the plan “Extra Credit Grants 2.0” and is pushing to continue a program that Republicans in North Carolina’s General Assembly approved last September to provide $335 to more than a million state households.

“The recommendation invests $250 million in grants to low- and middle-income families with children to help alleviate widespread financial hardship across the state. The state will distribute grants of $250 or $500 to eligible families, with lower-income families eligible for the higher amount,” a Wednesday press release on the North Carolina governor’s website explained.

Under the proposal, a single person earning just $15,000 or less annually would receive $500, while a couple filing jointly and earning up to $30,000 could receive $500. Individuals earning up to $30,000, or couples earning up to $60,000 annually, would receive $250 payments.

Newsweek reached out to Cooper’s press office for further comment but did not immediately receive a response.
