How Stimulus Checks Will Be Distributed To Disability Benefit Recipients

Stimulus checks for social security recipients

Social Security disability benefit recipients who were not required to submit a federal income tax return in 2018 or 2019 will receive the stimulus check automatically based on data contained within a 1099 benefit statement. This means no additional documentation will be required for most disability benefit recipients in order to receive the stimulus payment. The payment could very well be directly deposited into your account.

The automatic disbursement was not the original plan for these stimulus checks. In fact, the IRS initially planned to require individuals, including those who rely exclusively on disability benefit income, to complete a form to receive a stimulus check. However, after public pressure, the IRS agreed to simply use the 1099 benefit statements to retrieve the information needed to send out the stimulus payments.

The Social Security Administration announced today that Supplemental Security Income recipients will receive automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department. Treasury anticipates these automatic payments no later than early May.

SSI recipients with no qualifying children do not need to take any action in order to receive their $1,200 economic impact payment. The payments will be automatic.

SSI recipients who have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. If SSI beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, they will have to wait until later to receive their $500 per qualifying child.

Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries will also qualify for automatic payments of $1,200 from Treasury. These payments are anticipated to start arriving around the end of April.

Please note that the agency will not consider Economic Impact Payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.

How To Increase The Social Security Payment

As we have already mentioned, it is impossible to increase your monthly Social Security check if you have already applied for retirement. • But it is not necessary to maximize all the details to get a good check. Keep these three details in mind before applying for Social Security.
  • Get a good paycheck. The amount of the Social Security check depends on the taxes we pay. So the higher the salary, the more taxes we pay. So that translates in the end into a larger benefit.
  • Delay retirement as long as possible. Age 70 is the limit for increasing Social Security. After this age there is no other benefit. So we can wait until we reach these years before applying for the benefit.
  • Work at least 35 years. Every year not worked under 35 means that $0 is added to the average retirement. It is better to work more years with less pay than to not reach this minimum time worked.

If I Haven’t Received My Stimulus Check What Should I Do
