Fourth Stimulus Check Possible Timeline

Right now, there is no fourth stimulus check timeline or fourth stimulus check release date. Until legislation is in motion, we can’t say how soon more relief money might arrive. We can’t say whether more relief money is coming, at all.

That said, the third stimulus check timeline happened rather quickly following Biden’s inauguration Jan. 20. It only took a few weeks for Congress to debate his American Rescue Plan. Once the president signed the bill on March 11, $1,400 checks were put in motion.

The IRS can begin sending out possible fourth stimulus checks in the same manner it sent the previous stimulus payments. Since the framework is already in place, Americans could begin receiving the fourth stimulus checks about two weeks after a relief bill allowing another round of direct payments is approved.

Stimulus Check Update: 6 States To Send Out Payments This Month

Irs Stimulus Check Tracker Phone Number

While the federal government has not indicated any plans for a fourth round of stimulus checks, several U.S. states will be sending out more money to residents this month under various initiatives.

The three federal stimulus checks provided qualifying Americans with payments of $1,200, $600 and $1,400 across 2020 and 2021 as the U.S. contended with the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. But elevated costs for food, gas and other products and services have continued to stretch American wallets.

A full breakdown of which states are sending out payments and who qualifies is below.

Alaska

The Alaska budget signed by Governor Mike Dunleavy in June included $3,200 in payments, including a one-time $650 energy relief payment and a $2,550 Permanent Fund dividend, that will be sent to Alaskans, the Anchorage Daily News reported.

Dunleavy announced in July that the payments would begin arriving in bank accounts on September 20, according to Alaska Public Media. For those who submitted paper applications or asked for paper checks, the payments are expected to be sent about two weeks later.

Colorado

Colorado Governor Jared Polis signed a law in May this year that would provide a $750 tax rebate for individual filers and a $1,500 rebate for joint filers. According to the Colorado Department of Revenue, those who filed their state income tax return by June 30 will receive their checks by September 30.

Are $2000 Monthly Stimulus Checks Possible

Stimulus checks: Here’s how to track your stimulus money

In response to President Biden’s American Jobs Plan proposal, a group of 21 senators on March 30 sent a letter urging the inclusion of stimulus checks in the legislation. The group called for recurring payments as long as the pandemic lockdown continued, meaning people would get monthly checks from the government. No amount for the payments was specified.

We urge you to include recurring direct payments and automatic unemployment insurance extensions tied to economic conditions in your Build Back Better long-term economic plan, wrote the group, which consisted of Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, and others.

An earlier stimulus check proposal, put forward during the early days of the American Rescue Plan in late January, also suggested monthly payments until the pandemic is over, but did not mention an amount. However, Rep. Ilhan Omar , D-Minnesota, tweeted earlier in January that she wanted to see $2,000 per month.

If that amount sounds familiar, it’s because now-Vice President Kamala Harris threw her support behind $2,000 recurring checks during the negotiations for the second stimulus check legislation in the summer of 2020.

The proposal has also gained plenty of support outside of Congress: Six online petitions calling for $2,000 monthly stimulus checks until the end of the pandemic have been posted. The biggest petition, on Change.org, has been signed by more than 2.8 million people and has a stated goal of reaching 3 million.

I Had A Problem With The First Or Second Payment

Some individuals had too much income in 2019 to qualify for the first or second stimulus payment , but their income decreased enough in 2020 for them to qualify. If you fall into this category, you can file a tax return for your 2020 taxes and you’ll receive a recovery rebate credit as part of your refund .

In other cases, families received stimulus payments by direct deposit but the IRS neglected to add money for one or more of their children. Sometimes there didn’t seem to be a reason for this . For other families, it seems the IRS did not update the number of children that taxpayers have, even for families who claimed new children on their 2019 tax returns. You’ll be able to claim the rest of the stimulus payment when you file your next tax return.

How The Treasury Offset Program Works

Stimulus Check Frustrations? Here

Here’s how the Treasury Offset Program works:

  • The TOP will check if your name and taxpayer information are in its delinquent debtor database.
  • If there is a match, TOP will notify you that it is deducting the amount you owe from your tax refund.
  • TOP will send the outstanding amount to the government agency to which you owed the money.
  • If you owe more money than the payment you were going to receive, then TOP will send the entire amount to the other government agency. If you owe less, TOP will send the agency the amount you owed, and then send you the remaining balance.

Here’s an example: you were going to receive a $1,500 federal tax refund. But you are delinquent on a student loan and have $1,000 outstanding. TOP will deduct $1,000 from your tax refund and send it to the correct government agency. It will also send you a notice of its action, along with the remaining $500 that was due to you as a tax refund.

The Internal Revenue Service can help you understand more about tax refund offsets.

My Stimulus Payment Went To The Wrong Bank Account

If the Get My Payment tool tells you your check will be direct-deposited, it will also provide the last four digits of the number of the bank account into which your stimulus payment will be deposited. For the initial checks, some individuals saw that their deposit was going to an old bank account, or they even saw bank account numbers that they didn’t recognize. Here’s what to do:

    • If the tool says that your payment was deposited into your bank account but you haven’t seen it yet, your bank may still be processing it.
    • You won’t necessarily get the third check direct deposited, even if the first or second one was direct deposited.
    • If your third stimulus payment is sent to a closed bank account, the bank is required to transfer the money back to the IRS. The IRS will not redeposit it to you or mail you a paper check. Instead, you will have to file your 2021 tax return to claim your “Recovery Rebate Credit.” See below for instructions on claiming the rebate on your tax return.
    • If H& R Block submitted your last tax return and you signed up for a “refund transfer,” the IRS might deposit your stimulus payment with H& R Block . H& R Block should transfer the money to your bank account within 24 hours.
    • Those who submitted their last tax return with Turbo Tax should receive their payments in the same bank accounts through which they received their tax refunds.

Questions About Your Stimulus Check You Can Soon Call The Irs

    May 21, 2020 / 12:15 PM / MoneyWatch

The federal stimulus payments now on their way to 150 million taxpayers have generated a flood of questions from consumers, many of whom have expressed frustration at their inability to get an answer or even someone on the phone from the IRS. But help is on the way, with the tax agency on Monday saying it’s adding 3,500 workers who will take questions about the checks.

However, it’s unclear whether taxpayers with complicated situations will be able to get answers about their stimulus checks, as the IRS says the workers will “answer some of the most common questions” about the payments. Based on emails and messages to CBS MoneyWatch, the most common query is when someone will receive their money.

To date, about 130 million of 150 million Americans have received their payments, according to the IRS. The stimulus payments are $1,200 for single people who earn less than $75,000, while married couples who earn less than $150,000 will receive $2,400. Children under 17 are eligible to get $500.

The goal of the payments, which were authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security, or CARES, Act, is to help Americans weather the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Who Can I Talk To About My Stimulus Check

How can I check on the status of my stimulus check?

The IRS said Monday that is is starting to add 3,500 telephone representatives to answer some of the most common questions about Economic Impact Payments. Thats good news if you have questions about your stimulus payments. However, the IRS notes that telephone services and assistance will remain limited and that you should continue to visit the IRS website for updates, check your payment on the Get My Payment tool and use the Non-Filers tool if you didnt file income taxes.

To speak with a live representative, you can call the IRS Economic Impact Payment line at 800-919-9835.

The IRS says that many frequently asked questions will be answered on the automated recording, and then you will have an option to speak live with a representative. However, after listening to an automated message, you may not actually speak with a live representative.

Fourth Stimulus Check: Are More Payments Coming

Here’s what we know about a possible fourth stimulus check

A fourth stimulus check from the government could take one of two forms: monthly checks in fairly small amounts, or one-time payments of up to $2,000.

Both options have been put forward by legislators in Congress as follow-ups to the third round of pandemic relief payments, which were made possible by the American Rescue Plan Act of March 2021.

The U.S. economy is still recovering, with slow but steady job growth even as unemployment numbers hold steady and the Delta variant of COVID-19 causes hospitalization rates to soar.

The federal moratorium on evictions ended Aug. 26 with a Supreme Court ruling , and millions now face losing their homes. Inflation , however, appears to be on the rise, contributing to fears among economists and lawmakers that further stimulus payments could only fuel more price hikes.

As a result, there’s no legislation in Congress that’s likely to pass that would create a fourth round of stimulus payments, even though some Democratic lawmakers have called on President Joe Biden to consider recurring payments.

The White House has passed back the buck, stating that the president would consider whatever Congress comes up with.

“We’ll see what members of Congress propose,” Psaki added, “but those are not free.”
