Economic Recovery For Some
Relief payments were intended to ease COVID’s economic impact and support the economy in the process. The third round of relief payments started back in March, courtesy of the American Rescue Plan . Over the following months, about 169 million people received up to $1,400 each. That accounted for nearly all of the $422 billion set aside. The ARP checks closely followed the $600 payments from January, which came nine months after the $1,200 payments from the pandemic’s early days. They seem to have worked, but have also helped many who didn’t actually need the money.
In the third quarter of 2021, the U.S. economy grew at an annualized rate of 2.0 percent, according to the most recent estimate from the Bureau of Economic Analysis. That’s a major slowdown from the torrid pace in the second quarter, which saw 6.7 percent growth. The Conference Board forecasts continued though slower growth through the rest of the year. The country’s gross domestic product , an estimate of economic activity across the U.S., has surpassed pre-pandemic levels. By that general measure, the economy has fully recovered.
The Push For A Fourth Stimulus Check
After the US government gave out three stimulus checks during the middle of the pandemic, there were repeated calls for a fourth stimulus check. They eventually cooled off, but there is a petition that has over three million signatures. You can read more here about the fresh calls for a fourth stimulus check and how likely they are to succeed.

Worsening Economic Conditions Would Likely Be Necessary For Another Stimulus Check
It is unlikely in the current economic climate that a fourth payment would be authorized even if there is a change in the makeup of Congress. There are no widespread lockdowns right now, and because of high inflation, many lawmakers are reluctant to pump more money into the economy which could make inflation worse.

Stimulus Check Missing Payment Issues Or Errors
The IRS will also be mailing Stimulus Payment letters to each eligible recipients last known address 15 days after the payment is made. The letter will provide information on how the Payment was made and how to report any failure to receive the Payment. Note that the IRS or other government departments will not contact you about your stimulus check payment details either.
Why didnt I get a stimulus check? Remember that the IRS has to have your direct deposit details, which is normally only provided if you received a 2018 or 2019 refund. If you file a return and they cannot use their portal to add direct deposit details, then your payment will come via check which could take several weeks. At this checks will likely start arriving at your IRS registered address from the end of April.
Finally you will also likely be able to claim any missing payments in your 2020 tax return as a tax credit. All this unfortunately will mean delays in getting your stimulus payment until issues are worked through.
Congress Previously Acted Quickly To Get Relief To Americans Affected By The Pandemic
When the US and the world were put on lockdown, millions of workers were confined to their homes sending the unemployment rate skyrocketing to 14.7 percent in April 2020. Congress acted rapidly to pass the 2020 CARES Act to get relief to businesses and households, including the first round of stimulus checks of up to $1,200 for eligible adults and $500 per qualifying kid under age 17.
Congress also passed generous enhanced pandemic unemployment benefits which kept households afloat where workers businesses were shuttered or they had to stay home because of pandemic-induced upheavals in their lives. Those benefits were extended in 2020 and again in 2021 but have now ceased, being seen by some as the reason behind a severe labor shortage in the US.
Two more rounds of stimulus checks were also passed in the interim of up to $2,000 in total. They are credited with supercharging the economic recovery which had begun to lag at the end of 2020 as a new variant caused infections to surge. But the last one has also been blamed for the current high rate of inflation.

A Fourth Stimulus Check Dont Count On It
Roughly $1.9 trillion in fresh stimulus money is currently making its way through the system and to most Americans. But as the economic damage from the pandemic is still being repaired, could Congress send more stimulus checks?
Put simply, its unlikely. The consensus among economists points to this crisis soon nearing its conclusion, while the passage of the latest relief package and the vaccine rollout could even result in strong economic growth. Thats what Goldman Sachs is seeing, forecasting a staggering 8% GDP gain in 2021what could be one of the highest years on record for the U.S., according to the Word Bank. Treasury Secretary , and there is even a slight chance the U.S. economy could outgrow China this year.
Meanwhile, economists who spoke with Fortune see the potential for more big spending packagesbut they likely wouldnt include any more direct payments.
In that sense, I dont think there will be a fourth round of stimulus checks, argues Zandi.
To date Congress has sent three stimulus checks to most Americans: a $1,200 check in April 2020, $600 in December, and is in the process of delivering $1,400 payments. Now, President Joe Biden is preparing other massive spending proposals, this time focusing on infrastructure and human development projects, expected to cost around $3 trillion when all is said and done.
Could A 4th Stimulus With Recurring Payments Begin In 2021
While many Americans are awaiting the arrival of third stimulus checks, which are part of President Joe Bidens American Rescue Plan, 74 members of Congress are pushing for a fourth round of direct payments.
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — While many Americans are still awaiting the arrival of third stimulus checks, which are part of President Joe Bidens American Rescue Plan, 74 members of Congress are pushing for recurring direct payments throughout 2021.
President Joe Biden has talked about a potential $3 trillion spending bill for 2021. The third stimulus bill would focus on revving the economy, combatting inequality, and repairing the countrys infrastructure that has been fractured due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Two months before the American Rescue Plan was signed into law, 53 House Democrats sent a letter to Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris asking for recurring stimulus checks until the economy rebounds from the losses incurred during the pandemic. According to a report in Newsweek, there are now 74 lawmakers who have joined the push for a fourth stimulus package.
In the January letter, the lawmakers ask for equal payments to adults and dependents.
One more check is not enough. Another one-time round of checks would provide a temporary timeline, but when that money runs out, families will once again struggle to pay for basic necessities, the group of lawmakers said in the letter.

More Third Stimulus Payment Money For Some In 2022
Parents who added a child in 2021 could be getting up to $1,400 after they file their 2021 taxes this coming spring thanks to the American Rescue Plan. The money won’t come as a direct check but will be part of the overall tax return.
The 2021 Economic Impact Payment — colloquially known as the third stimulus check — was actually an advance on what is called the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit. What that means is that the $1,400 stimulus check most individual Americans received in 2021 is, in fact, money they would have gotten after filing their taxes in the spring of 2022 as a Recovery Rebate Credit.
In other words, millions of Americans already got part of their tax refund 12 months early.
“The bottom line is that’s money that’s going out almost immediately to millions of people as a tax credit in advance of putting it on a tax return in the next year,” said Raphael Tulino, IRS spokesman.
However, the IRS was going off of 2019 or 2020 tax returns for its information on the third EIP. It was using that information to determine if taxpayers would get stimulus money for their dependents. If eligible parents had a child born into their family in 2021, they can request the Recovery Rebate Credit on their taxes to get the payment for that child.
It gets more complicated with adoption because all the paperwork and processes to finalize the adoption must be completed first.
This does not pertain to the first or second stimulus payments that were paid in 2020.

Social Security recipients, disability , Survivor Beneficiaries and Railroad Retirees who are not otherwise required to file a tax return will also be eligible for the stimulus payments, as long as their total income does not exceed the eligibility income limits above. The IRS in conjunction with the Treasury and Social Security Administration announced that recipients of Supplemental Security Income will automatically receive the $1200 Stimulus Check . See details here. This group of recipients will receive the stimulus check the same way they currently get their federal benefits in early May with no further action needed on their part.
However note that because the IRS has no information regarding dependent data for this group of recipients, the $500 kid dependent stimulus payment would not be automatically paid to this group. They need to use the non-filers tool on the IRS website to claim this.
The Omicron Variant Didnt Slow Down Job Gains
Unlike last year though, when the Omicron variant pushed new infections to levels much higher than at any time during the pandemic, the US recorded significant job gains. Data collected in the middle of the surge reported 467,000 new hires, over three times what analysts had expected. Additionally, there are more job openings than there are workers available to take them pushing up wages as businesses try to attract employees.
On the other hand, 6 million people, nearly twice as many as in December, could not work or lost hours over the previous month due to the pandemic disrupting normal business at their place of employment. The incredibly fast rise in infections from the highly contagious Omicron variant fortunately appears to have reversed just as quickly.

Stimulus Check Update: A 4th Payment Would Be Critical For Many Study Says

As the U.S. confronts rising inflation, slower job gains and a crippled supply chain, a new study finds that the Americans most in need of a stimulus check at the beginning of the pandemic continue to suffer most.
The three rounds of stimulus checks spanning two presidencies were critical to lower earners, researchers with the Capital One Insights Center found, but didnt go far enough.
The study started in spring of 2020, with the authors administering surveys to a nationally representative group of Americans every four to eight months to learn more about the virus impact, from how they used their stimulus checks to their view of the U.S. economic recovery.
The respondents fell into three annual income groups less than $25,000, $25,000 $100,000 and over $100,000. Lower earners were much more likely than other groups to have spent the final stimulus payment on bills, the study found.
Part of the reason for that, researchers said, was the lack of recovery for the nations poorest.
