The $1400 Third Stimulus Checks Are Still Going Out: What About The Fourth

Your Money: Where’s my third stimulus check?

It has been three months since the first of the third stimulus checks was sent by the IRS. But there have been regular batches of the Economic Impact Payments going out ever since under the American Rescue Plan. The $1,400 check for every individual earning below a certain amount has reached more than 169 million families and individuals.

2.3 million payments were made in the last batch, both as a direct deposit into banks and paper checks and debit cards, which were delivered through the US Postal Service.

That brings the total amount distributed since March 12 to $395 billion. And along with these payments, the IRS has also given out reminders that people who are yet to file their tax returns for 2020 should do so immediately to get the right amount in their stimulus check

When Will Ssi Get Their Third Stimulus Check

A date has yet to be set for when those receiving Social Security and other federal beneficiaries will get their money. Though the IRS has said those recipients will generally receive the third payment the same way as their regular benefits.

The IRS said if someone did not file a tax return and they receive SSA, RRB, SSI or VA benefits and their benefits are currently deposited to a Direct Express card, then the 2021 Economic Impact Payment will be deposited to that card.

The House Ways and Means Committee sent a letter to Rettig Monday expressing concern over the delay and asked the IRS to provide an update by Friday.

“Some of our most vulnerable seniors and persons with disabilities, including veterans who served our country with honor, are unable to pay for basic necessities while they wait for their overdue payments,” the committee wrote.

What To Do If You Cant Find Your Stimulus Check

If your IRS online account shows that you should have received a stimulus payment, but you didnât get it, thereâs a chance it could have been lost in the mail. Or you might have thrown away the prepaid debit card you received.

If you lost your stimulus check or suspect it was stolen, you can request the IRS trace your payment. If the IRS determines your check hasnât been cashed, it will issue a credit to your account. It canât reissue your payment, but you can claim the payment on your 2021 tax return using the Recovery Rebate Tax Credit worksheet.

If a trace is initiated and the IRS determines that the check wasnât cashed, the IRS will credit your account for that payment. However, the IRS canât reissue your payment. Instead, you will need to claim the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2021 tax return if eligible.

If you lost your EIP card, a prepaid debit card on which some individuals received their stimulus payment, contact card issuer MetaBank to request a replacement.

When Will Your Stimulus Check Arrive

Here

The stimulus payments are being distributed to taxpayers either by direct deposit or by paper checks or debit cards arriving by mail. If youve been paying your taxes via direct deposit, the IRS should already have your banking information on file and will make the payment directly to your bank account.

For direct deposit, the IRS uses data already in its system to determine which bank account to send the payment to. That most likely happens by attaching a routing and account number to your 2020 or 2019 tax filing, as well as inputting one earlier in 2020 for receiving your first stimulus check. Those receiving payments by mail will have to wait a little longer.

This round, the Treasury Department is also working with the Bureau of the Fiscal Service to identify federal records of recent payments to and from the government to find a possible bank account alternative for delivering stimulus payments as a direct deposit. The move helped accelerate the stimulus check delivery timeline, the IRS said in a statement.

In most cases, individuals arent required to take action to receive their checks and are discouraged from contacting the IRS, according to a Treasury Department release.

The IRS and Treasury Department anticipate sending out more tranches on a weekly basis moving forward.

How Do I Know If I’m Eligible For A Third Stimulus Payment

For the first and second stimulus checks, whether you were eligible for any stimulus money depended on whether you were considered a dependent and the amount of your AGI from your federal tax filing. Your AGI is your gross income minus any eligible adjustments that you may qualify for. Since the tax deadline has been extended to May 17, the IRS is likely to use your 2019 tax return, if you file taxes.

If you have a pension or investments that are taxable, those will affect your AGI, and therefore your eligibility for a stimulus check. The same is true for interest from a bank account. Interest from tax-exempt bonds isn’t included in your AGI, however, so it wouldn’t affect your stimulus payment eligibility.

For the third stimulus check, some of the eligibility rules changed in the final version of the bill — read on for more, and use our third stimulus check calculator to see if you qualify based on income limits. Here are stimulus calculators for the first and second checks, respectively.

The Us Federal Government Sent Out Three Waves Of Stimulus Payments Since The Start Of The Covid

The US is in the throes of another wave of covid-19 infections with case numbers surpassing all previous peaks. In the past this led to the federal government stepping up to help Americans left struggling in the disruption the pandemic has wrought on livelihoods and household finances. However, this time despite workers out sick or quarantining no new federal stimulus checks look set to be sent out.

In a recent press release the Internal Revenue Service put out its annual report highlighting the efforts of its employees in 2021. One of the accomplishments touted by the agency has been successfully delivering more than $1.5 trillion to people across the nation through Economic Impact Payments, tax refunds and advance Child Tax Credit payments. Here’s a look at the three Economic Impact Payments, better known as stimulus checks.

How Is The Third Stimulus Check Calculated

The stimulus plan mandates the treasury to rely on 2019 and 2020 tax returns to calculate how much you could get for the third round of stimulus checks.

Congress approved limits based on adjusted gross income ranges. This means that taxpayers making less than the minimum threshold could get the full stimulus check, while those earning above it get reduced payments until they are fully phased out at higher incomes.

You can find your AGI on IRS form 1040. This is calculated by subtracting deductions like student loan interest, health savings account payments, and contributions to a traditional IRA from your gross income.

By contrast, your gross income is the total amount of money that you made during the tax year, including wages, dividends, capital gains, rental property income and other types of revenue.

Your 2019 taxes had to be filed by July 15, 2020. And your 2020 taxes are due by the extended deadline of May 17. You can read more about when to file your tax returns for the third stimulus check, and other IRS requirements in two tax sections below.

Can I Track My Payment

When will the third round of stimulus checks be sent?

The IRS reopened its “Get My Payment” website following the passage of the American Rescue Plan, allowing people to track when they might receive their stimulus checks. The IRS created this portal last year for the $1,200 stimulus checks directed by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security, or CARES, Act.

When people check the “Get My Payment” site for the new $1,400 checks, they typically see one of several messages.

First, some people will see that their payment has been processed, along with a payment date and whether the payment will be sent via direct deposit or mail. If a check is sent by mail, the IRS will either send a paper check or a pre-paid debit card.

Others may see a message that they are eligible, but their payment hasn’t been processed and therefore there’s no payment date available.

Are Adult Dependents Getting Third Stimulus Checks

The new stimulus plan expands eligibility to adult dependents, including college students, elderly relatives and disabled adults.

The text of the plan redefines the term dependent according to section 152 of the tax code, which includes both qualifying children and adults: Section 152 provides that the term dependent means a qualifying child ) or a qualifying relative ).

While the plan pays out $1,400 for each qualifying dependent, families should keep in mind that the targeted lower income ranges exclude them if they earn over $160,000.

For reference, the second stimulus checks provided additional $600 payments for qualifying dependents under the age of 17. So a couple filing jointly with three eligible children could get a maximum second payment of $3,000 .

Under the first and second rounds of stimulus checks, children and adult dependents over the age limit could not get an additional payment, and they did not qualify for a stimulus check of their own either.

With the new stimulus plan, however, both joint filers and heads of household get an additional $1,400 payment for each dependent, regardless of age. The table below breaks down the third stimulus checks for heads of household with one dependent:

Stimulus Checks for Heads of Household & 1 Dependent
AGI
$120,000 and up $0

When Should We Expect The 3rd Stimulus Check

Stimulus checks sent via direct deposit will start appearing in bank accounts around March 13 or 14, according to the White House. Those with direct deposit will get their money the fastest. Checks and debit cards, if the IRS uses them will be mailed in the following weeks.

The IRS has already delivered two rounds of stimulus payments to date, so the system is in place for quickly disbursing the money once again.

But we can’t forget it’s tax season. The IRS is currently processing millions of tax returns and paying out refunds. The added task of delivering stimulus checks might cause some delays. However, Psaki said the agency is doing what it can to get money to people as quickly as possible.

Third Stimulus Check When To Expect Your $1400 Covid Relief Money

  • 19:10 ET, Feb 6 2021

PRESIDENT Joe Biden has reassured Americans that $1,400 stimulus checks will be sent out in a new round of Covid aid.

But with so many in desperate need of the support package now, many are left asking how much longer they will be left waiting for the stimulus.

Biden vowed “to act fast” to get the third instalment of stimulus checks to Americans after the new $1.9trillion Covid budget plan has passed.

During a press briefing on Friday, Biden told reporters that he would not delay getting the stimulus payments sent out.

“I’m going to act fast,” he said. “I’m going to help the American people who are hurting now.”

Biden also confirmed that the relief payments would not be cut down.

“Here’s what I won’t do: I’m not cutting the size of the checks,” he said.

“They’re going to be $1,400. Period. That’s what the American people were promised.”

Biden’s statement came after the House, on a near party line vote, approved the Senate-passed budget resolution.

Democrats plan is to push forward a package similar to Biden’s $1.9trillion economic aid proposal will all signs pointing to the being bill signed into law in the coming weeks.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters on Friday: “Hopefully in a two-week period of time we’ll send something over to the Senate and this will be done.

The new plan has been passed in the Senate in a “giant first step” to giving Americans aid.

I’m Not A Us Citizen But I Pay Taxes Can I Get A Third Stimulus Check

Under the , non-US citizens, including those who pay taxes, weren’t eligible to receive the $600 payment, unlike with the first round of checks. Under the CARES Act of March 2020, all US citizens and non-US citizens with a Social Security number who live and work in America were eligible to receive stimulus payments. That included people the IRS refers to as “resident aliens,” green card holders and workers using visas such as H-1B and H-2A.

If your citizenship status has changed since you first got a Social Security number, you may have to update the IRS’ records to get your check. US citizens living abroad were also eligible for a first payment.

For the third payment, the new law includes checks for “mixed-status” citizenship families — families with members with different immigration statuses — who were left out of the first two checks.

What counts as income? That depends on your personal circumstances.

Who Qualifies For The Third Stimulus Check

Millions of Americans who were eligible for the $600 second stimulus checks could qualify for the third round of stimulus payments up to $1,400. However, many high-earning taxpayers who were eligible for previous stimulus checks are now excluded. The plan narrows income eligibility to exclude individuals earning over $80,000 and couples making over $160,000:

  • Singles phase out at AGIs between $75,000 and $80,000.
  • Heads of household phase out at AGIs between $112,500 and 120,000.
  • Couples phase out at AGIs between $150,000 and $160,000.

Keep in mind that this is different from the sliding scale that was used to determine eligibility for previous stimulus payments. The IRS reduced second stimulus checks by 5% for the total amount made over the AGI limit. This means that payments went down by $5 for every $100 over the limit.

The table below breaks down third stimulus payments based on narrower income ranges for singles and joint tax filers:

$1,400 Stimulus Checks With Narrower Income Ranges
Single AGI
$174,000 and up $0

The Third Stimulus Check: Will You Still Get A Payment This Time

The third stimulus check, for up to $1,400, faces one last test in Congress, where House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders are racing to beat a weekend deadline for President Joe Bidens $1.9 trillion COVID relief package.

If the Democrats who control Congress can keep things on track, Americans could have more money to pay down debt, take care of bills, build up your emergency savings, invest or just splurge within weeks or even days, the White House says.

Here’s more on when to expect your next stimulus check that is, if you’re even getting a stimulus check this time. You may be among the millions who received cash in the last two rounds but are about to come up empty-handed because of new income limits.
