When Do The Stimulus Checks Go Out

Date:

Payment Status Not Available Or Need More Information

Northeast Florida residents relieved $1,400 stimulus checks will go out soon

Some will get a message that says Payment Status Not Available.

If you get this message, either we have not yet processed your payment, or you are not eligible for a payment, the IRS said. We will continue to send the 2021 Economic Impact Payment to eligible individuals throughout 2021.

And others will get a Need More Information message when using the tool if the payment was returned to the IRS because the post office was unable to deliver it for another reason.

If your address has changed the IRS says the easiest way to update is to file your 2020 tax return with your current address, if you havent already done so. Once we receive your current address, we will reissue your payment.

When Should I Get My Payment

The IRS was given hard and fast deadlines to send the two rounds of Economic Impact Payments out to American families. The first round of payments had to be sent out by December 31, 2020. The second round had to be sent out by January 15, 2021.

What this means: If you have not received the first or second round of payments yet, then you will not be getting them in advance. The good news is that you can still do something to get these payments. Read below.

    Oregon: Direct Payments Of $600

Stimulus Tracker By Bank / When do the stimulus checks go out? Check ...

In March 2022, the Oregon legislature voted to approve one-time $600 payments to some residents. Taxpayers who were eligible to receive the earned income tax credit on their 2020 state tax return, and who lived in Oregon for the last six months of 2020, were eligible to receive one payment per household.

The state used federal pandemic aid to provide these direct payments to low-income residents, and more than 236,000 households received a payment. All payments were distributed by direct deposit or mailed check between June 23 and July 1, 2022.

The Oregon Department of Revenue website contains FAQs for residents with concerns about receiving their payment.

Stimulus Check Eligibility: Who Will Get The Stimulus Check

If you were eligible for the full amount of the first and second stimulus checks, you will likely also be eligible for the third stimulus check, but not everyone who got smaller checks in the first two rounds will receive money this time.

In the first two stimulus bills, people who earned $75,000 or less per year according to their most recent tax returns qualified for the entire stimulus check. Joint filers who earned up to $150,000 per year were also eligible for the entire amount.

People who earned more than those amounts received a prorated amount that was reduced by $5 for every $100 of income above the threshold. This time around, the amount will be reduced by $28 for every $100 of income above the threshold.

If you made between $75,000 and $80,000 on your last tax return, multiply every dollar above $75,000 by 0.28. Take the resulting number and subtract it from $1,400. The result will be the size of your stimulus check.

So if you make $77,000, the amount to multiply by 0.28 would be $2,000. That comes to $560. Subtract that from $1,400 and you get $840. We have a link to a stimulus check calculator.

Because the payment amounts were different between the first two bills, the income cutoff to get any money at all was $99,000 for single filers for the first check, but only $87,000 in the second check. The cutoffs were double those amounts for joint filers.

In the third bill, the cutoff will be $80,000 per year for single filers and $160,000 per year for joint filers.

What If My Income Has Changed

A lot can change in two years. What if you make significantly less now than you did in 2020? Could you qualify for a larger payment?

No, the California Franchise Tax Board tells Nexstar. The Middle Class Tax Refund legislation requires eligibility to be based on a complete filed 2020 California state income tax return.

That means regardless of any change in income lower or higher youre locked into receiving the payment size that corresponds with your 2020 income. There is no way to appeal the Franchise Tax Board for an exception.

When Will The Third Stimulus Check Be Sent Out

Democrats and President Joe Biden want to have the COVID-19 relief plan approved by March 14. Thats when extra unemployment assistance and other pandemic aid expires.

However, there could still be changes before the bill is passed by the Senate. The Senate parliamentarian, who advises the Senate on its rules and procedures but has no formal power, ruled Thursday that a provision to gradually raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour must be stripped out. The Senate, as it has in the past, does have the power to change the rules to allow its inclusion.

If the Senate makes any changes to the bill, it would then have to go back to the House for approval again.

During the first round of stimulus checks in April 2020, it took about two weeks for the federal government to start distributing the money. It took around one week for the second round of checks, worth $600, in early January.

If the IRS is able to keep with previous timelines, Americans could start receiving stimulus checks from late March to early April. For example, if the stimulus package is signed into law by March 14, based on previous relief plans, the first direct deposits may go out the week of March 22.

Another possible complicating factor is that this round of stimulus checks will likely be going out while the IRS is dealing with tax returns.

    Indiana: $325 Rebate Payments

$1,400 stimulus checks could go out this week

Like Georgia, Indiana found itself with a healthy budget surplus at the end of 2021, and it has authorized two rebates to its residents.

In Dec. 2021, Gov. Eric Holcomb announced that Indiana taxpayers would get a $125 one-time tax refund after they filed their 2021 taxes.

Theres no income requirement. Residents must have filed a state tax return for the year 2020 by Jan. 3, 2022, as well as a 2021 Indiana tax return by April 18, 2022, to be eligible. Payments started in May, according to a state information page.

Taxpayers who filed jointly will receive a single deposit of $250.

A second rebate was approved in August 2022 to grant another $200 per taxpayer.

Most taxpayers will receive their refunds by direct deposit, and the second payments started rolling out in late August. If you changed banks or dont have direct deposit information on file, youll receive a paper check. A printing delay put mailing the first round on hold for several months, but mailing resumed in mid-August. Checks mailed after that point contain payments for both rebates, for a total of $325 per taxpayer.

Distribution of printed checks is expected to take place through early October. If you did not file your 2021 tax return by the April deadline, you can claim your $125 rebate on your 2022 taxes.

Are Adult Dependents Getting Third Stimulus Checks

The new stimulus plan expands eligibility to adult dependents, including college students, elderly relatives and disabled adults.

The text of the plan redefines the term dependent according to section 152 of the tax code, which includes both qualifying children and adults: Section 152 provides that the term dependent means a qualifying child ) or a qualifying relative ).

While the plan pays out $1,400 for each qualifying dependent, families should keep in mind that the targeted lower income ranges exclude them if they earn over $160,000.

For reference, the second stimulus checks provided additional $600 payments for qualifying dependents under the age of 17. So a couple filing jointly with three eligible children could get a maximum second payment of $3,000 .

Under the first and second rounds of stimulus checks, children and adult dependents over the age limit could not get an additional payment, and they did not qualify for a stimulus check of their own either.

With the new stimulus plan, however, both joint filers and heads of household get an additional $1,400 payment for each dependent, regardless of age. The table below breaks down the third stimulus checks for heads of household with one dependent:
