Idaho: $75 Rebate Payments
In February, Idaho Gov. Brad Little signed a bill that allocated $350 million for tax rebates to Idahoans. There were two criteria for eligibility:
- Full-time Idaho residency and filed 2020 and 2021 tax year returns, OR
- Full-time Idaho residency and filed grocery-credit refund returns.
The payments began in March. Each taxpayer received either $75 or 12% of their 2020 Idaho state taxes, whichever was greater . The rebate was applicable to each taxpayer and dependent.
The tax commission first issued rebates to taxpayers who received tax refunds via direct deposit, then sent paper rebate checks. The majority of the rebates have been issued.
In a special session on September 1, Idaho lawmakers voted to authorize another tax rebate for all residents who filed state tax returns in 2020. Individual filers will receive $300, and couples filing jointly will get $600.
Those payments started processing in late September, and about 75,000 payments will be sent out each week throughout the end of the year and into early 2023.
State residents can check their rebate status on the Idaho State Tax Commission website.

When Was The Third Stimulus Check Approved
By now, youve heard the history of how a third stimulus check happened: Just as most Americans received their $600 second stimulus check from the U.S. Treasury during the coronavirus pandemic, President Joe Bidens $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan included a third stimulus payment of $1,400.
The American Rescue Plan passed first in the House and then Senate and was signed by President Biden on March 11, 2021. Lawmakers wanted the bill to go into effect before some COVID-19-related unemployment benefits expired in mid-March 2021.5And they hit their deadline just in the nick of time.

Who Is Eligible For The Second Stimulus Check
Eligibility is primarily based on four requirements:
1. Income: The income requirements to receive the full payment are the same as the first stimulus check. There is no minimum income needed to qualify for the payment. Households with adjusted gross income up to $75,000 for individuals will receive the full payment. This stimulus payment starts to phaseout for people with higher earnings. The second stimulus check maximum income limit is lower than the first stimulus check. Single filers who earned more than $87,000 in 2019 are ineligible for the second stimulus check.
View the chart below to compare income requirements for the first and second stimulus checks.
Income to Receive Full Stimulus Payment | First Stimulus Check Maximum Income Limit | Second Stimulus Check Maximum Income Limit |
Single Filer | ||
$136,500 | $124,500 |
2. Social Security Number: This requirement differs from the original eligibility for the first stimulus check. Originally under the first stimulus check, if you were married filing jointly, both spouses needed valid Social Security numbers . If one spouse had an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number , then both spouses were ineligible for the stimulus check. For married military couples, the spouse with an SSN could still get the stimulus check for themselves but not the other spouse with an ITIN.

When To Expect Your Third Stimulus Check
The US treasury and the IRS already started making the transactions starting on March 12. However, even if you can see the money as pending in your account, that money will not be accessible until March 17 which is the official release date.
With that in mind, the IRS set a deadline for later in the year to finish sending all the checks which means that there is still the possibility that the money will arrive much later into your account. Considering the number of people living in the United States, this is understandable.

Havent Received Your Third Stimulus Payment Yet
The IRS will continue to send checks via the Treasury. The majority who have received a first or second payment dont need to do anything more to get the third payment, which often will be sent out automatically. Following the model of the second round of checks, payments should be issued automatically to people who:
- Filed 2019 or 2020 federal tax returns. The IRS will use the taxpayers latest processed return.
- Registered for the first round of stimulus payments through the non-filer portal on IRS.gov by Nov. 21, 2020.
- Receive Social Security , Supplemental Security Income , or Railroad Retirement Board or Veterans Affairs benefits.
Those receiving Social Security and other federal benefits will generally receive this third payment the same way as their regular benefits.
The IRS Get My Payment Tool allows you to provide information to the agency for a stimulus check and to track payment status.
If you got your payment based on your 2019 return and find that youre entitled to more based on your 2020 return, the IRS will compute the additional amount owed to you.
Stimulus Update: Who Is Getting A Stimulus Check In 2022 States Giving Money To Residents
FILE This May 8, 2008, file photo shows blank checks on an idle press at the Philadelphia Regional Financial Center, which disburses payments on behalf of federal agencies in Philadelphia. AP
Despite ongoing economic woes and soaring prices on everything from homes and gas to eggs and bread, the federal government is not likely to give residents more stimulus checks in 2022.
Some states, however, are opting to take matters into their own hands and issue their own stimulus checks. Heres a look at the states that are issuing stimulus checks.
California
California residents are receiving up to $1,050 in stimulus checks to go towards inflation relief, according to CBS News. The payments are part of Gov. Gavin Newsoms $308 billion state budget.
The state is also suspending its sales tax on diesel fuel and providing additional assistance to help people with rent and utility bills.
Colorado
State residents who filed their 2021 tax returns by June 30 will receive extra cash, according to the Colorado Department of Revenue. Individual filers will receive $750 joint filers will receive $1,500.
Residents will receive their Colorado Cash Back check by Sept. 30.
Delaware
Delaware begin sending relief rebate checks of $300 to taxpayers in May. Joint filers are receiving $300 each. The one-time payment comes from a budget surplus.

Revised Child Tax Credit: Everything You Need To Know
14 Min Read | Mar 25, 2022
Update: If you received monthly child tax credit advance payments this year, be on the lookout for Letter 6419 the IRS started mailing out in December. The form lists the total amount of advance payments you received, and youll need it to file your 2021 taxes and receive the other half of your child tax credit.
If I Take the Advance Payment, How Does This Affect Next Years Taxes? All right, you guys, if you have kids like me, listen up: Some of you are going to get cash in your hands every month for the rest of 2021 thanks to the increased Child Tax Credit. I know what youre thinking: Isnt the Child Tax Credit just given out at tax time? And the answer isyep, normally thats how it works. But not this year. Which makes sense, because theres been a lot of extra money from the government lately.
First, there was stimulus number one, then number two, and then number threeand now the first of the Child Tax Credit payments just went out, and theyll keep coming for the rest of the year.
A lot of you still have questions about it, so lets talk about what the new beefed-up Child Tax Credit means for you and your money.
Fourth Stimulus Check Approval: Heres What Itll Take
The White House hasnt responded to any of the proposals for additional stimulus checks, and the general sentiment is that a fourth stimulus check isnt likely. Economists have suggested weve already moved past the pandemics worst financial woes, although there are signs that Americans could still use relief.
Experts certainly seem in agreement that there wont be a fourth stimulus check. The latest stimulus package, the American Rescue Plan, is gonna be the last on that front, Deutsche Bank senior U.S. economist Brett Ryan told Fortune. No more checks.
Ed Mills, Washington policy analyst at Raymond James, agreed, telling CNBC recentlyI think its unlikely at this time. D.C. has largely started to pivot towards the recovery and an infrastructure bill.
Many economists and financial experts are worried that the third stimulus checks have contributed to a growing inflation rate. In June 2021, the core inflation rate, stripped of energy and food prices, rose 4.5% at an annual rate vs. the Dow Jones estimate of 3.8%. The overall consumer price index rose at an annualized 5.4% rate in June.

Who Is Eligible For The New Child Tax Credit
All right, qualifying for the new Child Tax Credit is based on several things: your income and the number of dependent children you have, plus their ages. The IRS will base all of this on your 2020 taxes . If you need to make any changes to what they already have on filelike say, oh, you had a sweet new baby or a change of income in 2021you can update your information through the Child Tax Credit Update Portal.
Now, theres a limit to all of this. The Child Tax Credit will start to phase out for incomes over $150,000 for married taxpayers filing a joint return and qualifying widows or widowers, $112,500 for heads of household, and $75,000 for all other taxpayers.7
Lets take a look at the Child Tax Credit Amounts for each age group one more time:
- Ages 05: $3,600
- Ages 617: $3,000
- Ages 1824 : $500
Your dependents will have to meet some basic conditions too. Obviously, theres the whole age thing, but they also need to be dependents that you claim on your taxes. So if you share custody of your children, the increased Child Tax Credit will go to the spouse who is claiming the kids for the 2021 tax year. You cant both claim the same child. And if you do, you might have to repay all or some of it back to the government the next year. That would be a huge bummer, so make sure you have everything figured out between you guys.
How Are Americans Using Stimulus Checks

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York says that households are spending a smaller percentage of their stimulus checks and saving more. The that households set aside just under 25% of their third-round payments for consumption. This share fell from just over 29% of first-round payments reported in June 2020 and almost 26% of second-round payments reported in January 2021.
The table below is based on all three SCE surveys and breaks down the average percentage of stimulus payments spent, saved and used to pay off debt:
New York Fed SCE Breakdown of Stimulus Check Spending | |
Payment Round | |
37.4% | 33.7% |
The New York Fed also says that households expect to spend an average 13% of the third stimulus check on essential items and an average 8% on non-essential items.
For a comparison, preliminary data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau from shows that the majority of stimulus recipients are almost three times more likely to use checks to pay down debt than add to their savings.
An earlier showed that the majority of recipients who got the first stimulus check spent their payment on household expenses. Adults with incomes between $75,000 and $99,999 told the Census that they would most likely pay off debt or add to their savings. While adults making less than $25,000 said they would use their stimulus to pay for expenses.
For those households that spent their first stimulus checks, the study says:

You will most likely get the Recovery Rebate Credit as part of your tax refunds. If you electronically file your tax return, you will likely receive your refund within 3 weeks. If you mail your return, it can take at least 8 weeks to receive your refund.
Claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit will not delay your tax refund. However, if you dont claim the correct amount of the Recovery Rebate Credit, your refund may be delayed while the IRS corrects the error on your return. The IRS will send you a notice of any changes made to your return.

More Third Stimulus Payment Money For Some In 2022
Parents who added a child in 2021 could be getting up to $1,400 after they file their 2021 taxes this coming spring thanks to the American Rescue Plan. The money wont come as a direct check but will be part of the overall tax return.
The 2021 Economic Impact Payment colloquially known as the third stimulus check was actually an advance on what is called the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit. What that means is that the $1,400 stimulus check most individual Americans received in 2021 is, in fact, money they would have gotten after filing their taxes in the spring of 2022 as a Recovery Rebate Credit.
In other words, millions of Americans already got part of their tax refund 12 months early.
The bottom line is thats money thats going out almost immediately to millions of people as a tax credit in advance of putting it on a tax return in the next year, said Raphael Tulino, IRS spokesman.
However, the IRS was going off of 2019 or 2020 tax returns for its information on the third EIP. It was using that information to determine if taxpayers would get stimulus money for their dependents. If eligible parents had a child born into their family in 2021, they can request the Recovery Rebate Credit on their taxes to get the payment for that child.
It gets more complicated with adoption because all the paperwork and processes to finalize the adoption must be completed first.
This does not pertain to the first or second stimulus payments that were paid in 2020.
