When Will Arizona Get Stimulus Checks

Applying For Rent Relief

Who in Arizona will get stimulus checks and how much they’ll be

Residents of Pima County and the City of Tucson can apply for rental assistance funds online. Those who are granted relief may receive enough money to cover up to 15 months of unpaid rent and housing expenses, up to a limit of $30,000. That money can go toward not just past-due rent, but also outstanding utility bills that include electric, gas, and water.

To qualify, applicants must prove they experienced some type of financial hardship due to or during the pandemic. That could include job loss or reduced hours resulting in income loss.

Applicants must also have a total household income that doesn’t exceed 80% of the area median income. For a household of four, that means not having an income above $54,700.

Any tenant who qualifies for assistance will not see that money directly. Rather, relief funds will be paid directly to landlords who are owed rent, or to utility providers that are owed money.

It’s also worth noting that Pima County and the City of Tucson will allow landlords to apply for rent relief funds on their tenants’ behalf. Property managers can also apply for rental assistance on the part of tenants.

Our Plan: Tax Relief For Every Arizonan

From Veterans to working families, to small businesses weve developed a tax reform plan for all Arizonans. Rather than increasing spending and growing government, our plan returns the states record revenues to hardworking taxpayers. With our plan, every Arizonan will see a reduction in their tax rate, no matter their income.

Whats Not In The Package

Minimum wage hike: A controversial measure to raise the minimum wage did not survive an earlier version of the rescue plan. The measure would have more than doubled the minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 in increments over the next four years. The Senate parliamentarian ruled that the proposal did not meet requirements for a reconciliation bill. Expect the issue to come up in a separate bill later on.

In early March, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed a law to send multiple rebates to state taxpayers.

Taxpayers earning under $75,000 annually received a rebate of $250 . The rebate was issued in July and sent automatically to taxpayers who filed a 2021 state return.

Another rebate was issued to all taxpayers. Single filers received $500, and joint filers received $1,000. This rebate was split into two equal payments, delivered in June and August 2022. The funds were sent automatically to taxpayers who filed a 2021 state return.

A taxpayer earning under $75,000 annually could potentially receive up to $750 with the combined rebates.

Residents who dont file income tax returns should have received a rebate in July. Single individuals without dependents received $500 households with married couples or single adults with dependents received $1,000.

If you file your 2021 state income tax return by May 31, 2023, youll receive your rebate by direct deposit or check. If you owe tax from your 2021 return, it will be deducted from your rebate amount.

Idaho: $75 Rebate Payments

In February, Idaho Gov. Brad Little signed a bill that allocated $350 million for tax rebates to Idahoans. There were two criteria for eligibility:

The payments began in March. Each taxpayer received either $75 or 12% of your 2020 Idaho state taxes, whichever is greater . The rebate was applicable to each individual taxpayer and each dependent.

The tax commission first issued rebates to taxpayers who received refunds via direct deposit, then sent paper rebate checks.

In a special session on Sept. 1, Idaho lawmakers voted to authorize another tax rebate for all residents who filed state tax returns in 2020. Individual filers will receive $300, and couples filing jointly will get $600.

The funds come from the states $2 billion budget surplus. The payments are slated to roll out within weeks, according to a report by the Idaho Press.

State residents can also check the status of their rebate online.

One of the programs, which received $163 million in federal funds, provided up to $1,800 in additional funding per pupil in public and charter schools that were in compliance with all state laws and open for in-person instruction. Schools that required masks would not be eligible.

A separate $10 million program funded vouchers worth up to $7,000 to help poor families leave districts that required face coverings or imposed other Covid-related constraints.

But Arizona moved ahead with the programs anyway, and Mr. Ducey sued the Biden administration to block any efforts to recover pandemic relief money.

What New Stimulus Package Means For Arizona Nation

Congress approved a new $1.9 trillion stimulus package Wednesday to help carry the nation through the final stage of the pandemic. Out of that, Arizona expects to receive about $12 billion for aid to businesses, schools, families and others still struggling from pandemic shutdowns and disruptions.

After several hours of testimony on the House floor, the measure, which was passed by the Senate on Saturday, was approved along party lines, 220-211, with all Democrats in support. Passage of the bill comes as expanded unemployment benefits are set to expire Sunday.

President Joe Biden issued a statement celebrating the bills passage, saying he is ready to sign it into law.

This legislation is about giving the backbone of this nation the essential workers, the working people who built this country, the people who keep this country going a fighting chance, Biden said.

Arizona Sen Mark Kelly Voted For Trump And Biden Laws That Let Prison Inmates Get Stimulus Checks

If Your Time is short

  • There have been three laws passed in response to the coronavirus pandemic, two signed by then-President Donald Trump and one by President Joe Biden, that provided stimulus checks to millions of Americans. Prison inmates were eligible for all of the payments.

  • One law was signed before Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., took office. Kelly voted in favor of the other two and against a failed amendment to one bill that would have excluded inmates from receiving a stimulus payment. That amendment was the only vote specifically about inmates receiving stimulus checks.

  • Republicans supported the first two bills signed by Trump, then denounced the Biden bill. Republicans criticized the Biden stimulus payment for going to incarcerated people, even though the previous ones went to them, too.

An ad that spoofs a TV commercial makes claims that are no joke about Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly in Arizonas high-profile U.S. Senate race.

“Are you here illegally but need help getting your taxpayer benefits?” says the narrator in the 30-second spot that includes Spanish subtitles. “Are you an inmate that wants your Biden stimulus check? Mark Kelly is here to help.”

Kelly “voted to allow prison inmates to receive stimulus checks five separate times,” the ad says.

The ad ends with an image of Kelly behind the words: “Call Mark Kelly today! 1-800-LIBERAL.”

In March 2022, the Oregon legislature voted to approve one-time $600 payments to some residents. Taxpayers who were eligible to receive the earned income tax credit on their 2020 state tax return, and who lived in Oregon for the last six months of 2020, were eligible to receive one payment per household.

The state used federal pandemic aid to provide these direct payments to low-income residents, and more than 236,000 households received a payment. All payments were distributed by direct deposit or mailed check between June 23 and July 1, 2022.
