You Get Social Security
Social Security recipients and people receiving Social Security disability benefits or Railroad Retirement benefits are eligible for stimulus checks, and they do not have to file taxes in order to receive a payment. However, if anyone in these groups has a dependent under age 17 and does not file taxes, they should add that information at the IRS’s “Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here” page in order to get an extra $500 per child.
The first people to get stimulus checks are those who have filed tax returns and have their direct deposit info on file with the IRS. People who receive Social Security or the other benefits mentioned above fall into a second category, and they will receive their payments in the next wave of deposits from the IRS. These people can expect their payments to show up in their bank accounts by the end of April, if not sooner. On the other hand, if federal agencies do not have your bank info on file, your payment will come in the mail as a paper check, and that process could take much longer.
Who Receives A Stimulus Check Payment
If you fall within the Adjusted Gross Income thresholds shown below and have a Social Security number, you are eligible for each economic impact payment. Those who do not qualify for payments include non-resident aliens, dependents, and estates/trusts.
The amount of payment or credit you qualify for depends on your Adjusted gross income and the number of qualified children with a Social Security Number or Adoption Tax Identification Number you can claim.
For 2020, youll qualify for up to $1,800 in credits for yourself and qualified dependents can increase the amount youre eligible to get by up to $1,100 per qualified dependent . Unfortunately, adult dependents didnt qualify for the first and second stimulus payments.
For 2021, youll qualify for $1,400 in advance credits for yourself and qualified dependents will increase the taxpayers EIP by $1,400 so far. However, adult dependents do qualify the taxpayer to receive additional amounts on the third check.

Still Don’t Have A Stimulus Check Here’s How To Track Yours

While major banks in the U.S. started delivering $1,400 stimulus checks in March, the federal relief payments continue to arrive at millions of households struggling to make ends meet amid the coronavirus-hobbled economy.
The Internal Revenue Service has delivered more than 165 million payments, with a total value of approximately $388 billion, the agency said Wednesday. The latest round includes 1 million payments, with the IRS noting they have an official payment date of May 12. That means the most recent recipients will receive a direct deposit on Wednesday, or soon get a paper check or pre-paid debit card in the mail.
The timing and delivery of checks has been a cause of anxiety for some people, especially for those who receive government benefits such as Social Security and don’t typically file taxes. The IRS prioritized sending checks to people who have already filed their 2019 or 2020 tax returns, since the agency was able to quickly verify eligibility based on income and also determine where to mail or direct deposit the checks.
The agency said it’s sending another 500,000 payments to eligible people who recently filed a tax return but for whom it didn’t previously have information to issue a stimulus check.
You May Be Able To Use Your Prepaid Debit Card To Pay Your Rent
More stimulus payments will hit peoples bank accounts on March 24, while other taxpayers will soon receive checks and prepaid debit cards in their mailboxes.
This money, a financial lifeline for many families, represents the third round of economic relief tied to the coronavirus pandemic. The American Rescue Plan provides payments ofup to $1,400 for eligible individuals and $2,800 for couples filing a joint federal return. Eligible taxpayers meeting the income thresholds will receive an additional $1,400 for dependents. These payments are technically an advance payment of a 2021 tax credit.
The IRS is sending most payments by direct deposit because it is the easiest and fastest way to get this money to tens of millions of Americans. When that isnt possible, the agency is mailing checks and prepaid debit cards.
About 20 million paper checks and debit cards are expected to start arriving soon, but the delivery could run into nationwide mail delays at the U.S. Postal Service.
Here are some answers to questions you may have about the delivery of stimulus payments by check or debit card.

Eligible Albertans Can Now Apply For $600 Affordability Payments
Albertans who are eligible to receive $600 affordability payments from the province can now apply for the money.
The payments, intended to help offset inflationary pressures, will be received in monthly instalments of $100.
Families with household incomes below $180,000 are eligible to receive $100 per month for six months for each dependent child under 18.
Seniors 65 or older who have household incomes below $180,000 and do not receive the Alberta Seniors Benefit can also apply.
Minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services Jeremy Nixon says affordability is a top-of-mind issue for Alberta families, especially those living on fixed incomes.
“Todays inflation has brought uncertainty to seniors and those living with disabilities,” he said in a news release. “For these Albertans, an additional $600 is more food on the table and more assurance to know that they will be able to meet their basic needs.”

If you filed your 2020 taxes, one thing to keep in mind is that the IRS may not have processed your return yet. The IRS is still working through a backlog of 2019 tax returns due to the shutdown during the pandemic last year, along with processing 2020 returns.

Find The Status Of Your Economic Impact Payment Using The Irs Get My Payment Tool
Eligible individuals can visit IRS.gov and use the Get My Payment tool to find out the status of their Economic Impact Payment. This tool will show if a payment has been issued and whether the payment was direct deposited or sent by mail.
In certain situations, this tool will also give people the option of providing their bank account information to receive their payment by direct deposit. Information is updated once a day, usually overnight, so there’s no need to check it more than once a day.
How Can I Get My Money Faster
The IRS is first sending money to those for whom it has bank account information on file. That might not be you if you havent received a tax refund over the past two years or if you received a refund by a check in the mail, rather than by a direct deposit.
But the Get My Payment tool, which launched Wednesday, will also allow taxpayers to input their bank account information so that they can receive the money electronically rather than by a paper check which could take weeks, or even months.
To do so, a taxpayer will need to submit their adjusted gross income from their most recent tax return, the refund or amount owed that year, as well as the account and routing numbers for their bank account.
However, taxpayers wont be able to update their bank information once the payment is already scheduled for delivery, and it wont allow you to update bank information already on file, the Treasury Department said.

Where Things Stand On The New Stimulus Checks
The new, $1,400 payments are part of President Joe Bidens $1.9 trillion pandemic rescue package. Its packed with a wide variety of other aid, including $400 a week in bonus unemployment benefits.
The Democrats who control Congress have Bidens plan zooming in the fast lane using a special process that would allow it to pass with simple majorities meaning with no Republican support, if it comes to that.
But one possible roadblock under that scenario is West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin, who has said only the neediest Americans should get the full $1,400. Democrats hold the Senate by a razor-thin margin and will need every vote from their side, including Manchins.
The current legislation would phase out payments for Americans making over $75,000 a year, same as with the earlier stimulus checks. Manchin has preferred a $50,000 threshold and says he wants proof that people making $75,000 are truly in need.
Last spring, most recipients spent their first $1,200 stimulus check on essential needs, including groceries and rent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has said.
A portion of the cash also was used for saving and investing, a bureau survey found, or for other, unspecified things possibly to buy affordable life insurance. Demand for life insurance policies has surged amid COVID.
