In this case, the Farm and Food Workers Relief federal program organized by the Department of Agriculture offers some workers with a $665 million work relief. If your check for up to $1,400 per household member hasn’t come yet, it’s a good idea to triple-check your eligibility. If you do, here’s how to track your payment and what to do if there’s a problem with your check.
The requirements for the third payment have changed significantly from the first and second checks. For example, there are new income limits and rules for age, citizenship and tax status that can affect the size of your payment. We’ll walk you through what those qualifications are to help you determine whether you should expect a check — or whether you’ll be completely left out.

Will there be damage to my credit report if I take advantage of any virus-related payment relief, including the student loan suspension?
No. There is not supposed to be, at least.
The bill states that during the period beginning on Jan. 31 and continuing 120 days after the end of the national emergency declaration, lenders and others should mark your credit file as current, even if you take advantage of payment modifications.
If you had black marks in your file before the virus hit, those will remain unless you fix the issues during the emergency period.
Credit reporting agencies can make errors. Be sure to check your credit report a few times each year, especially if you accept any help from any financial institution or biller this year.
What if I find black marks anyway?
File a dispute with the credit bureau, but it may take a while to fix them. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has told credit bureaus and others that during the pandemic they can take longer than the usual 30 to 45 days to meet the dispute-response deadline, as long as they are making good faith efforts.

People Who Don’t File Tax Returns
As the IRS processes 2020 tax returns, it is also sending new $1,400 stimulus payments to those people it did not previously have on record.
If you do not typically file tax returns or receive federal benefits, the IRS urges you to submit a tax return this year so you can receive your stimulus check.
If you make $72,000 or less, you can file your federal tax return for free using the IRS’Free File program. In addition, the IRS provides more information on its website on submitting a tax return for people in this situation.
Where Is My Third Stimulus Check
You can track the status of your third stimulus check by using the IRS Get My Payment tool, available in English and Spanish. You can see whether your third stimulus check has been issued and whether your payment type is direct deposit or mail.
When you use the IRS Get My Payment tool, you will get one of the following messages:
Payment Status, which means:
- A payment has been processed. You will be shown a payment date and whether the payment type is direct deposit or mail or
- Youre eligible, but a payment has not been processed and a payment date is not available.
Payment Status Not Available, which means:
- Your payment has not been processed or
- Youre not eligible for a payment.
Need More Information, which means:
- Your payment was returned to the IRS because the post office was unable to deliver it. If this message is displayed, you will have a chance to enter your banking information and receive your payment as a direct deposit. Otherwise, you will need to update your address before the IRS can send you your payment.

The 2021 Stimulus Payment
On March 11, 2021, the American Rescue Plan was signed into law. It called for sending a third round of stimulus checks to Americans. The American Rescue Plan authorized a $1,400 stimulus payment to eligible people. Learn more about it on the IRS website. If you receive no $1,400 payment or a reduced check, but your income changes, you may be able to claim the money you are due when you file your taxes next year.
“Any change, either a slight reduction in earnings or even just putting more money in a traditional IRA or a 401 could yield a much bigger total payment when they do their 2021 taxes,” said Garrett Watson, senior policy analyst at the Tax Foundation.
“There’s a subset of folks who will be in that situation,” Watson said.
That also goes for this year’s tax-filing season for people who missed out on the previous $1,200 or $600 payments. You can claim a recovery rebate credit to recoup any money you were possibly owed. This is also available to people who typically do not file tax returns because their income is too low.

What If I Filed My Taxes For The First Time In 2020
First-time taxpayers may face additional delays in receiving their stimulus payments.
Before the IRS can issue these stimulus checks, they must receive and process your 2020 tax return. However, due to new tax codes and more complicated tax filings this year , as well as processing stimulus payments, the IRS is backlogged. There are already 6.7 million returns yet to be processed, which is significantly higher than the nearly 2 million delayed returns at this point last year.

The IRS has said that it continues to process tax refunds while it processes stimulus payments. Are You Entitled To A $1400 Check In 2022
The American Rescue Plan Act authorized payments of $1,400 per adult and $1,400 per dependent. President Joe Biden signed the Act into law at the end of March and the vast majority of Americans have already received the full amount of stimulus money due.
However, people who had a baby or otherwise added a new dependent may not have received all the money that they were supposed to get this year. The problem is, the IRS determined how many dependents were entitled to the $1,400 payments by reviewing past tax returns. And if you added a dependent only in 2021, then this information would not have been available to the IRS when your payment was calculated.
If you missed out on a payment for any new dependents you added in 2021, you can claim $1,400 per dependent in 2022. So, for example, if you added twin babies to your family this year, you would be entitled to $2,800 for them. You’ll simply have to claim the money by filing a tax return. The payments that were sent out were an advance on a tax credit, so the tax credit should be available to you when you file your 1040 form with the IRS for 2021.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns in late January of 2022, so the sooner you file your return for 2021, the faster you can get the $1,400 payment that you’re owed.

There Are Still Unclaimed Federal Stimulus Payments
In addition to the stimulus payments above, you may be eligible for federal stimulus money and other assistance you haven’t yet claimed. The IRS has begun sending letters to over 9 million households that don’t normally file federal income taxes because their incomes are too low. Even if you don’t normally file federal income taxes, filing is necessary to claim the stimulus payments, child tax credits and other benefits. The letters will explain benefits you may be eligible for and how to file your taxes using the IRS’ FreeFile tool until midnight Eastern time on November 17, 2022.
Stimulus Checks: Who Will Be Able To Request The Unclaimed Payments And When Is The Deadline
Taxpayers were able to claim the payment when filing their tax return for the 2021 fiscal year using the Recovery Rebate Credit. However, this years tax season ended on April 18 and the extension expired on October 17, but you may still be able to claim any money that you havent received from the third EIP.
Taxpayers can make sure they are eligible for the Recovery Refund Credit by checking if they received letter 6475 from the IRS last year. You may still be able to get the money by filing your return however, since both deadlines have passed, the amount you are eligible for would be reduced by penalties and your refunds could be less than expected.
On the other hand, people who are generally not required to file their tax return, because they have lower incomes, have until to request the third stimulus check, through the GetCTC.org tool. The Child Tax Credit of up to $3,600 may also be claimed.

What If My Mailing Address Changed Since I Received My Previous Stimulus Checks How Will I Get My Third Stimulus Check
If you are expecting to receive your third stimulus check by mail, it will be mailed to the last address you filed with the IRS. If your address has changed since then, there are different options you can take to make sure your stimulus check gets to you:
Option 1: File your 2020 federal tax return to update your address. If you havent filed your 2020 tax return yet, this is an easy way to update your address. File a tax return with your current address and your payment will be sent through the mail once the IRS receives your updated address.
Option 2: Provide your banking information in the IRS Get My Payment tool. If the post office was unable to deliver your stimulus check, it will be returned to the IRS. Two to three weeks after the payment has been issued, Get My Payment will display the message Need More Information. You will have the option to have your payment reissued as a direct deposit by providing your banking information.
If you dont provide your banking information, the IRS will mail your payment once your address is updated.
Option 3: Notify the IRS that your address has changed by telephone, an IRS form, or a written statement. It can take 4-6 weeks for the IRS to process your request.
How Is Your Income Calculated For The Stimulus Payments
The IRS will use the AGI on your most recent processed tax return on file. While 55.7 million Americans have already filed their taxes for 2020, millions still havent filedand the IRS is also significantly behind on processing tax returns.
The IRS will use your 2020 tax return if it has been processed by the date they submit your check. If your 2020 return is not available yet, they will use the information from your 2019 tax return.
Note: On March 17, the IRS announced an extension to file your 2020 taxes. Tax returns will now be due by May 17. But if you expect that you may receive more in stimulus money based on your 2020 taxes, and you have not yet received confirmation of your stimulus payment status , you should file as soon as possible.
If you are not required to file your taxes and successfully used the IRSs non-filers tool or completed a special simplified tax return in 2020, no action is needed on your part to receive your payment.
If you do not qualify based on your 2019 income, but you will qualify based upon your 2020 income, consider filing your taxes as soon as possible. Depending on your timing, your stimulus eligibility may be determined before your 2020 tax return is processed. However, the law includes a provision to make supplemental payments in September to ensure people who qualify do not need to wait until the 2021 tax season.
