Impact Of Not Filing A Tax Return On Your Ability To Receive A Stimulus Check

Stimulus checks for social security recipients

If your only source of income is federal disability benefits, there is a good chance you did not file a personal income tax return in recent years. This is because individuals are not required to file typical tax returns when their income levels are below a specific threshold and/or rely exclusively on federal benefits. According to the CARES Act , individuals who relied exclusively on disability benefits would still be able to get a stimulus check, even if they did not file a tax return in recent years.

The guidelines make clear that non-elective, non-coronavirus-related care, such as transplants, cardiac procedures for patients with symptoms, cancer procedures and neurosurgery, would still be provided.

Social Security: Will Those Collecting Benefits See A Fourth Stimulus Check People Are Still Pushing For One

Those collecting Social Security and SSI payments have been hopeful for a fourth stimulus check as advocacy groups push for more help.

While groups have been working tirelessly to try to get people another payment who need it most, its not likely to happen.

Inflation has only risen and continues to remain incredibly high. As Social Security recipients battle the cost of living on a fixed income, Congress isnt doing much to help.

A petition was created to try and help seniors on Social Security receive a fourth stimulus check worth $1,400. Despite the major support it got, it probably isnt going to happen.

The Senior Citizens League has been the group pushing for the one time payment worth $1,400, according to The Sun. The reason for this is because Social Security and SSI recipients are living on a fixed income. As prices rise, these individuals incomes are not rising to keep up.

A letter was sent to Congress from the Senior Citizens League detailing why the need for a fourth stimulus check existed.

The group shared that theyve received hundreds of emails detailing the struggles seniors on Social Security face. Some are cutting their medication dosage in half while others are cutting back to only eating one meal per day.

On the other hand, people with sufficient work history can qualify for monthly SSDI payments based on their former wages, with the average national benefit at $1,280 per month.

Will My Stimulus Check Arrive As An Eip Card

When in May will Social Security stimulus checks be mailed?

The IRS projects that 5 million stimulus payments will be made by Economic Impact Payment debit card, but checks going out to Social Security recipients won’t take the form of an EIP card. According to the SSA support website: “The IRS does not plan to issue prepaid debit cards to beneficiaries for this third round of EIPs … The Social Security Administration does not administer the EIP debit card program, and did not decide who received an EIP debit card instead of a paper check.”

Minnesota: $750 Payments For Frontline Workers

Some frontline workers could receive a one-time payment of $750, thanks to a bill signed by Gov. Tim Walz in early May.

Eligible workers must have worked at least 120 hours in Minnesota between March 15, 2020 and June 30, 2021, and were not eligible for remote work. Workers with direct Covid-19 patient-care responsibilities must have had an annual income of less than $175,000 between Dec. 2019 and Jan. 2022 workers without direct patient-care responsibilities must have had an income of less than $85,000 annually for the same period. Applications for the payment are now closed.

How Should A Representative Payee Use A Beneficiarys Economic Impact Payment

Stimulus checks will be sent to SSI recipients

Date: March 26, 2021

The EIP belongs to the Social Security or SSI beneficiary. It is not a Social Security or SSI benefit. A representative payee should discuss the EIP with the beneficiary. If the beneficiary wants to use the EIP independently, the representative payee should provide the EIP to the beneficiary. If the beneficiary asks the representative payee for assistance in using the EIP in a specific manner or saving it, the representative payee can provide that assistance outside the role of a representative payee.

Change In Income Can Affect How Much Stimulus Money You Receive

Many Americans lost their jobs or had their hours reduced dramatically, which is likely going to impact their total income for tax year 2020. This is noteworthy because your 2019 tax return may not be reflective of your current income status. For example, someone may have made $125,000 during tax year 2019, but suddenly lost their job in early April 2020 causing their total income for 2020 to take a nosedive. Unfortunately, if the IRS uses the 2019 tax return, this individual might be disqualified from receiving a COVID-19 stimulus check or will receive a greatly reduced amount. If you find yourself in this situation, make sure to file your 2020 tax return and pursue a stimulus payment rebate in 2021.

Inflation Is Now The Problem To Tackle

This and the sky-high inflation the economy has experienced, among other factors, is why there will not be a fourth federal stimulus check. However, those that didnt receive the full amount that they were entitled to can still apply for a Recovery Rebate Credit from the tax year that the stimulus payment in question was sent out.

Rising prices, due to disruptions in supply chains induced by the pandemic and to a degree the massive financial stimulus, on the other hand have become the issue of the day. To counter the increased cost of living for residents, states have taken measures to ease the financial burden affecting households in their jurisdictions. And depending on the results of the Midterm Elections further federal government measures could be in the offing to assist families with rising costs.

Stimulus Update: Millions Of Social Security Recipients Should Get Stimulus Checks Wednesday

Millions of Social Security recipients should get stimulus checks

Those who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration and retirement checks from the Railroad Retirement Board should see $1,400 stimulus payments arriving in their bank accounts on Wednesday, according to the Internal Revenue Service.

The latest round of COVID-19 relief payments will be seen mainly by those Social Security, Supplemental Security Income and Railroad Retirement Board beneficiaries who didnt file a 2019 or 2020 tax return or who did not use the IRS Non-Filers tool to access the first two coronavirus stimulus payments.

According to the IRS, direct payments will be sent to recipients in the same way they receive their Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits.

The payments have been delayed because the IRS was not given the files by the Social Security Administration about two weeks ago.

After receiving data from the Social Security Administration on Thursday, March 25, the IRS began the multi-step process to review, validate, and test tens of millions of records to ensure eligibility and proper calculation of Economic Impact Payments, according to the IRS website.

For those who receive Department of Veterans Affairs benefits, the wait will be a bit longer. According to the IRS, the payments for veterans could be issued by mid-April.

You can track your stimulus payment using the Get My Payment tool on IRS.gov.

Social Security Announces A Second Ssi Payment In September

Inflation continues to ravage every household in the United States. Although many people can ask for a pay raise, not everyone can afford to have more money on a monthly basis. Workers can change jobs for a better paycheck, as well as talk to their boss for a pay raise. On the other hand, retirees cannot have a change in their monthly income. The Social Security Administration only makes one increase per year and that is through the COLA.

For that reason, there are a large number of people who are asking the Social Security Administration and the Government to send a new Stimulus check. Through this check, the situation can be fixed a little bit. It would benefit many SSA beneficiaries who do not have enough money to pay all the monthly bills. Last week, this group of people sent a letter to Congress requesting this new mailing of money.

If you have any questions about how the third stimulus check will affect your taxes, we recommend speaking with a tax professional.

Your stimulus payment, including any payment for dependents, will be reduced by a percentage of the amount over those thresholds.

What income does the IRS look at to determine if your payment should be reduced? The IRS will use your “adjusted gross income” from your 2020 tax return . If you didn’t file a tax return, the IRS will use your income from your Social Security or SSI checks.
