The SSA says local field offices are prioritizing disability and survivor applications for the most severe disabilities, and resolving payment-related issues such as missing payments and suspension of benefits. A statement from the IRS said: “These plus-up payments could include a situation where a persons income dropped in 2020 compared to 2019, or a person had a new child or dependent on their 2020 tax return, and other situation.

“The payments also include payments for people for whom the IRS previously did not have information to issue a payment but who recently filed a tax return and qualify for an Economic Impact Payment.

“Payments to this group — and the “plus-up” payments noted above — will continue on a weekly basis going forward, as the IRS continues processing tax returns from 2020 and 2019.”

$600 For Ssi/ssp Recipients Is Approved In New Golden State Stimulus Package

Last week Governor Newsom and the Legislature announced an agreement on the proposed Golden State Stimulus, which will provide one-time stimulus payments of $600 to low-income Californians. As announced in the deal, eligible recipients of the $600 include:

  • Californians who are recipients of SSI/SSP
  • Californians who are recipients of the Cash Assistance Program for Aged, Blind and Disabled Legal Immigrants Program
  • Californians who are recipients of the CalWORKS program
  • California households receiving the California EITC for 2020
  • California taxpayers with Individual Tax Identification Numbers who were precluded from receiving the $1,200 per person federal payments issues last spring and the more recent $600 federal payments.

According to the Governors office, combined, the agreement that calls for the $600 one-time payments and grants would go to a total of 5.7 million eligible low-income Californians. The $600 payments and grants to Californians would be in addition to whatever payments may be coming from the Biden federal COVID-19 Relief bill that is pending in the US Congress and is in addition to the $600 payments in the previous federal COVID-19 relief bill passed by Congress and signed into law in December.

The bill, AB 88, also specifies that the stimulus payments shall not be taken into account as income for the purposes of determining the eligibility for benefits of assistance.

Third $1400 Stimulus Check Will Hit Bank Accounts Today For Millions On Social Security Benefits

  • 13:48, 6 Apr 2021

MILLIONS of Social Security beneficiaries should receive their third stimulus checks TODAY after weeks of waiting.

While more than 130 million Americans have already received their $1,400 checks, around 30 million Social Security Income recipients, who are not required to file taxes, are expected to receive their funds today.

The wait for the potentially vital injections of federal cash will finally be over for some, with the IRS confirming the payments meaning an estimated 30million Americans could receive their check today.

News of the pay date was first shared by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki in a news conference last week.

on track to send those payments out this weekend, Psaki said.

The majority of people should see them in their bank accounts on Wednesday, April 7, which is obviously a very positive step forward.

Starting last Friday, the government agency began processing payments to federal beneficiaries who didnt file a 2020 or 2019 tax return and didnt use the IRS non-filers tool last year.

The payments will go to Social Security retirement, survivor or disability, Supplementary Security Income and Railroad Retirement Board beneficiaries.

Ahead of Wednesdays payment date, the IRS said its employees are working tirelessly to once again deliver Economic Impact Payments to the nations taxpayers as quickly as possible.

But it took until March 25 for the SSA to provide the Internal Revenue Service with the paperwork.

WASHINGTON As work continues on issuing millions of Economic Impact Payments to Americans, the Internal Revenue Service and Treasury Department announced today that they anticipate payments will begin to be issued this weekend to Social Security recipients and other federal beneficiaries who do not normally file a tax return, with the projection that the majority of these payments would be sent electronically and received on April 7.

After receiving data from the Social Security Administration on Thursday, March 25, the IRS began the multi-step process to review, validate, and test tens of millions of records to ensure eligibility and proper calculation of Economic Impact Payments. If no additional issues arise, the IRS currently expects to complete that work and to begin processing these payment files at the end of this week. Because the majority of these payments will be disbursed electronically through direct deposits and payments to existing Direct Express cards they would be received on the official payment date of April 7.

The Get My Payment tool is updated for eligible individuals once their payment is processed. The IRS notes that the Get My Payment tool on IRS.gov will not be updated until the weekend of April 3-4 with information for federal beneficiaries expecting payments next week.

Stimulus Checks For Dependents Va Beneficiaries

Payments to Department of Veterans Affairs beneficiaries who dont normally file taxes and who didnt use the IRS online Non-Filers tool last year started going out April 9, with a payable date of April 14. The batch of 2 million stimulus payments, worth more than $3.4 million, also went to eligible people who had not filed a tax return until this year and didnt use the IRS Non-Filers Tool last year. Some of these payments were what the IRS calls plus-up payments to those who got stimulus payments based on their 2019 returns and then filed 2020 returns.

The third round of stimulus checks, authorized by the American Rescue Plan Act, provides a maximum of $1,400 to eligible individuals, $2,800 to couples and $1,400 to dependents. Unlike the previous two rounds, theres no age limit on stimulus checks for dependents, so its possible to get a check for a dependent college-age student or an aged parent. Because dependents are claimed on tax returns, the IRS can use that information to send out stimulus payments for dependents to tax filers.

    Child Tax Credit: December End

Stimulus auto-payment for Social Security recipients

Some families received another form of stimulus aid when the IRS in July deposited the first of six monthly cash payments into bank accounts of parents who qualify for the Child Tax Credit . Families on average received $423 in their first CTC payment, according to an analysis of Census data from the left-leaning advocacy group Economic Security Project.

Eligible families received up to $1,800 in cash through December, with the money parceled out in equal installments over the six months from July through December. The aid was due to the expanded CTC, which is part of President Joe Bidens American Rescue Plan.

Families who qualify received $300 per month for each child under 6 and $250 for children between 6 to 17 years old. Several families that spoke to CBS MoneyWatch said the extra money would go toward child care, back-to-school supplies and other essentials.

While progressives and some Democrats urged lawmakers to continue the enhanced CTC, it appears stalled at the moment. That means families wont receive a CTC payment in January or beyond.

Impact Of The Coronavirus Stimulus Check On Your Eligibility For Disability Benefits

If you are concerned that receiving a stimulus check will hurt your chances of receiving social security disability benefits, do not fret. The process of assessing eligibility for disability benefits is not dependent upon on your income or assets. Generally, to qualify for Social Security disability benefits, you need to have worked in an area of employment covered by Social Security and received a diagnosis for a medical condition that has left you disabled and unable to work.

Should I Hold Off On Filing My Tax Return

It likely wont make a difference in the longer term other than to update dependent or payment data, but the IRS will only use your 2020 tax return data to determine eligibility for this round of stimulus checks if they have processed your return . If your 2020 return has not been filed and processing, they will use 2019 tax data for payment.

If your 2020 return is filed and/or processed after the IRS sends you a third stimulus check, but before July 15, 2021 the IRS would send you a second payment or require a repayment for the difference between what your payment should have been if based on your 2020 return and the payment actually sent based on your 2019 return.

Will I Get A Coronavirus Stimulus Check If I’m Collecting Disability Benefits

If you are currently receiving Social Security Disability Insurance benefits, you may be wondering whether you qualify for the stimulus checks appropriated in the $900 billion legislation recently passed by Congress. This massive Coronavirus relief bill passed in both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate on December 21, 2020. Though, as of the date of this post, the President has yet to officially sign the bill into law.

If the bill is officially enacted, many Americans should expect to receive a check from the federal government for $600 per person. The legislation stipulates that, in general, individuals currently receiving disability benefits are eligible for the Coronavirus relief checks. If you filed your federal taxes jointly, there is a chance you will receive a $1,200 check. In addition, if you have a child under the age of 17, you will likely receive an extra $600 check.

When Will People on Social Security Disability Get Their Stimulus Check?

The 2021 COVID-19 relief legislation, known as the American Rescue Plan Act, contained two provisions that may be of concern if you receive Social Security disability benefits. The law provided for another round of stimulus payments of $1,400 for individuals and $2,800 for couples. It also made changes to the Child Tax Credit by increasing the credit for each child under 6 years of age to $3,600 and $3,000 for each child between the ages of six and 17.

The legislation also authorizes refunds of the unused portion of the credit that exceeds the amount of taxes a person owes. Taxpayers will claim half of the credit when they file their 2021 federal income tax return, and the other half will be paid in monthly payments beginning in July of 2021 and ending this December.

Some people who receive disability benefits may be concerned about not receiving their stimulus check, or they may be wondering about the effect a stimulus check or Child Tax Credit payment may have on their Supplemental Security Income or Social Security Disability Insurance benefits. The following information about the American Rescue Plan Act may be of help, but when questions arise about your benefits, an SSD lawyer at MJ Ellis Disability Law has the knowledge and experience to provide solutions.

On What Year Are The Income Limits Based

The new income thresholds will be based on a taxpayers most recent return. If theyve already filed a 2020 return by the time the payment is sent and it has been processed, the IRS will base eligibility on their 2020 adjusted gross income. If not, it will be based on the 2019 return or the information submitted through an online portal set up last year for people who dont usually file tax returns.

If your 2019 income was less than your pay in 2020, you will not owe back any money. But if your income fell in 2020, filing your tax return now before the payments go out may mean youll get a bigger check.

Act Now Go To Irsgov A Message From Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saulaction Needed For Social Security Beneficiaries With Dependents And Who Do Not File Tax Returns To Receive $500 Per Child Payment

Social Security beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income recipients who dont file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department soon. People receiving benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRSs webpage at www.irs.gov/coronavirus/non-filers-enter-payment-info-here and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here section to provide their information. Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries with dependent children and who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Wednesday, April 22, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly. SSI recipients need to take this action by later this month a specific date will be available soon.

I urge Social Security and SSI recipients with qualifying children who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

People with Direct Express debit cards who enter information at the IRSs website should complete all of the mandatory questions, but they may leave the bank account information section blank as Treasury already has their Direct Express information on file.
