Will There Be A Fourth Stimulus Check
US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack made this announcement a few weeks ago that a fourth stimulus payment is indeed coming for some people. The funding that makes it possible? It actually came from the so-called American Rescue Plan, the $1.9 trillion legislation from earlier this year that authorized the $1,400 stimulus checks everyone got several months ago.
That legislation also supported a $700 million program thats funding this fourth stimulus check. The money is going to farmworkers, meatpacking workers, and grocery store employees, though its unclear at this point how much exactly the latter will get.

Georgia: $250 Rebate Payments
Thanks to a historic state budget surplus, Georgia residents who filed both their 2020 and 2021 tax returns were eligible to receive rebate payments based on their tax filing status:
- Single filers: Maximum $250
- Head of household: Maximum $375
If you owed income tax or other payments to the state, such as delinquent child support payments, you may have received a smaller rebate. Partial-year residents may also have received a smaller rebate.
Eligible recipients who filed their 2021 taxes by April 18 should have received their refund in August.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said in his January budget proposal his office projects the state would be over the Gann Limit by $2.6 billion. Jones supports sending rebates, or what last year was considered the Golden State stimulus.

Colorado: $750 Rebate Payments
Colorado sent tax rebates of $750 to individual tax filers and $1,500 for joint filers. Colorado residents for the entire 2021 tax year who are 18 or older and filed their 2021 state income tax return were eligible for the payment.
Only physical checks were sent out in an effort to prevent fraud. Residents who filed their state tax returns by June 30 should have received a refund by September 30. Taxpayers who filed an extension can expect their check by January 31, 2023.

The federal government has issued three economic impact payments, or stimulus checks, since the coronavirus pandemic began. The last check for $1,400 was sent to Americans in March 2021. That money was a relief for many, keeping nearly 11 million people out of poverty across two administrations, data from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services shows.
The most impactful programs for alleviating poverty were economic impact payments under the ARP and unemployment compensation, said the HHS report.

In Virginia, households are getting up to $500 in inflation relief checks. The state is also offering a $1,000 bonus to some public service workers, including teachers, has cut the sales tax on groceries, and is offering a 10 percent salary increase to certain public servants.

The pandemic has better illuminated the growing disparities across the broader economy. While many households have financially flourished during COVID, many others have fallen far behind where they were in early 2020. Much of the gap depends on whether wage earners could work remotely or had public-facing jobs that required them to be on-site.
Financial insecurity is still widespread, and the loss of a job and the loss of hours have been some of the main reasons. Ten percent of American adults reported a shortage of food in their household over the previous week, according to U.S. Census survey data from late June and early July. Approximately 16 percent of renters have fallen behind on their rent, including 21 percent of renters with children in their household. The federal eviction moratorium, set to expire on July 31, doesn’t forgive rent that is owed, it pushes the debt into the future. But only a small fraction of the $46 billion Congress allocated for rental assistance from December to March has actually made it to tenants and landlords. So a wave of evictions may be coming soon. Millions are also struggling to pay their mortgage.

Some economists are fearing that the Federal Reserves action on interest rates could lead to a recession.
So far, the Fed has hiked interest rates four times this year in an effort to tame inflation.
And more hikes are likely on the way.
“Unless we see a rapid decline in the month-over-month inflation rate, well likely see the Fed raise interest rates again this year,” Laura Adams, a personal finance expert from Finder.com told The Sun in July.
“Higher interest rates make most types of credit such as credit cards, mortgages, and other business and personal loans cost more, which could lead to a recession,” she added.
As of August, the unemployment rate was sitting at 3.7% right around pre-pandemic levels but that could change.
Should the numbers tick up, this could force Biden and his Democratic to push publicly for another round of stimulus.
Who Qualifies For More
Some households will qualify for additional third-round funds when they file their 2021 income tax return this year, however. This is true for those whose circumstances changed in 2021 relative to 2020.
For example, children born in 2021 qualify for an additional payment of up to $1,400, which parents didnt receive last year.
Families who added a dependent on their 2021 tax return and who was not listed as a dependent on their 2020 return may also qualify, the IRS said.
Most other eligible people already received the full third-round amount and wont qualify for more, the agency said.

California
Californians will get up to $1,050 in stimulus checks to go towards inflation relief, according to CBS News. These checks will come out of the $308 billion state budget that Gov. Gavin Newsom signed earlier this month.
The inflation relief checks count as tax refunds that will send a total of $9.5 billion back to Californians.
Colorado
State residents who filed their 2021 tax return by June 30 will get a little extra cash by September. Individuals will receive $750 while joint filers will receive $1,500, according to Colorados Department of Revenue.
Filers who got an extension and filed by Oct. 17 will receive their payments by Jan. 31, 2023.
Delaware
In May, Delaware began sending relief rebate payments of $300 to taxpayers who filed a return in 2020 due to a budget surplus.
Most Delaware residents received these payments in May, and couples filing jointly can get $300 each.
Georgia
Gov. Brian Kemp signed legislation to give out rebate payments of $250 for single filers, $375 for heads of household and $500 for those filing jointly.

The State Of California Has Plenty Of Extra Money In The Budget To Earmark For Stimulus Checks
The direct payments that were issued to California residents in 2021 were possible because of a massive budget surplus that was in excess of the state constitutional limit. This required the state of California to issue the money from the budget surplus back to taxpayers in some form and the state chose to do so via stimulus checks that were issued to low- to moderate-income earners in the state.
This type of budget surplus doesnt happen often. In fact, its only occurred twice in the last four decades, but its expected to happen again during the 2022 fiscal year, which starts in July. It appears that theres going to be a lot of money left over, too, as California is expected to have a $31 billion surplus in the budget for 2022.
What that means is that the state will likely be required to issue the money from the budget surplus back to California residents in some form or fashion and its likely to do so, at least in part, by issuing another stimulus payment. What exactly that stimulus payment will look like, though, is anyones guess.

Should I Hold Off On Filing My Tax Return
It likely wont make a difference in the longer term other than to update dependent or payment data, but the IRS will only use your 2020 tax return data to determine eligibility for this round of stimulus checks if they have processed your return . If your 2020 return has not been filed and processing, they will use 2019 tax data for payment.
If your 2020 return is filed and/or processed after the IRS sends you a third stimulus check, but before July 15, 2021 the IRS would send you a second payment or require a repayment for the difference between what your payment should have been if based on your 2020 return and the payment actually sent based on your 2019 return.
Heres Who Gets A $1400 Stimulus Check In 2022
Back in March, President Joe Biden signed into law a massive economic aid bill including a $1,400 stimulus check for more than 100 million households. All signs indicate that third stimulus check will be the final one sent out during this crisis.
But this doesnt mean the IRS is done sending payments: Some taxpayers will be entitled to a check when they file their 2021 tax return next year.
Who gets the check in 2022? Eligible parents who welcomed a newborn into their family during the 2021 calendar year. The $1,400 payments sent out earlier this year were based on 2020 tax returnswhich, of course, didnt include 2021 newborns. Both Fortuneand Insider confirmed earlier this year that a stimulus check would go out to eligible parents of 2021 newborns once they file their tax return next year.
Of course, parents would still need to meet the income requirements. For single filers, that means making no more than $75,000 per year in adjusted gross income, while couples filing jointly could still get the full $1,400 check for each of their 2021 newborns if their income is less than $150,000. Taxpayers earning above those levels would see their checks reduced, however, and theyd be completely phased out if theyre a single-filer earning above $80,000 or a couple filing jointly earning above $160,000.
