Some economists are fearing that the Federal Reserves action on interest rates could lead to a recession.
So far, the Fed has hiked interest rates four times this year in an effort to tame inflation.
And more hikes are likely on the way.
“Unless we see a rapid decline in the month-over-month inflation rate, well likely see the Fed raise interest rates again this year,” Laura Adams, a personal finance expert from Finder.com told The Sun in July.
“Higher interest rates make most types of credit such as credit cards, mortgages, and other business and personal loans cost more, which could lead to a recession,” she added.
As of August, the unemployment rate was sitting at 3.7% right around pre-pandemic levels but that could change.
Should the numbers tick up, this could force Biden and his Democratic to push publicly for another round of stimulus.

A $3600 Tax Credit This Year
Some recipients, however, decided that for whatever reason they didnt need or want the six monthly checks upfront. In that case, theyre getting the child tax credit instead as a lump-sum benefit this year.
As a reminder, for every child under the age of 6, a family could get an expanded child tax credit of as much as $3,600. Meaning, if those families decided to forgo the monthly checks? They can still get that $3,600 this year as a tax credit, never mind that the Senate has still not acted to re-up the monthly payments this year.
The same is true, by the way, if any families eligible for the lower tier of the expanded child tax credit choose a lump-sum benefit this year. They could get up to $3,000, if they, too, decided to forgo the monthly payments last year.

Will There Be A Fourth Federal Stimulus Check
As of July 2022, the federal government doesn’t appear to have any plans to send a fourth stimulus check to all U.S. residents. The Biden administration has not made an appeal to Congress about a fourth stimulus payment, but legislative gridlock as the 2022 midterms approach all but assures any such proposal would be dead on arrival.
Will Seniors Get A Fourth Stimulus Check
Congress has failed to pass any new, meaningful stimulus measures, for senior citizens or otherwise.
Dozens of lawmakers have pushed for recurring stimulus payments.
However, another round of stimulus has not been a part of President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better Agenda.
A narrowed-down version of Biden’s plan has passed the Senate.
The package worth $700billion addresses climate change and aims to lower the cost on a small number of prescription drugs.
While that may have some positive impact on seniors, there are currently no serious talks about renewed stimulus payments.
A broad stimulus that includes seniors seems unlikely at best, currently.
Barring a significant change, senior citizens should not expect to receive more federal stimulus.
However, it’s possible that should the US enter a recession , that some more aid could be coming on the state or local level.
California is sitting on a big pile of cash right now, Dr Rosenberger said.
Whether that continues to be true, and whether the state decides to deploy that money on some kind of UBI or offset is unclear.

How The $2000 Asset Limit Could Change
SSI beneficiaries are currently subject to a $2,000 asset cap for individuals and $3,000 for couples.
The Social Security Administration calls this a “resource limit,” which includes assets a person owns that can be turned into cash, such as bank accounts, stocks, bonds or other property.
Brown and Portman’s bill seeks to raise those limits, which have not been changed since 1984, to $10,000 for individuals and $20,000 for couples.
The bill would also index those caps to inflation, so they would be adjusted annually.
For now, SSI beneficiaries can count on the fact that the two checks they receive in September will not push them above that $2,000 asset threshold.
“The bottom line is, you don’t have to go out on a binge or spend more money than you would prefer not to, because that $2,000 limit doesn’t apply to the second check,” said Richard Weishaupt, senior attorney at Community Legal Services of Philadelphia.

A lot of people didnt think wed see a third stimulus check eitherbut it happened.
With the economy and jobs both on the upswing, the need for a stimulus check is way less than its been since the start of the pandemic. Not to mention, a lot of people have been getting extra cash each month from the Child Tax Credit. Add all of that up and its easy to see that there might not be another stimulus check. But if there is one, dont worrywell let you know.
Why There Could Be A Fourth Stimulus Check
We’re starting off 2022 with a surge of COVID-19 cases, fueled by the highly transmissible omicron variant. Health experts are saying that cases could peter off by late January. But if that doesn’t happen, and the outbreak persists, we may be in for months of disruptions.
That scenario could force businesses to shut down and layoffs to ensue. If that were to happen, and the economy were to decline, then it could make the case for another stimulus payment.

What Retirees Need To Know About Stimulus Checks
According to the law, individuals earning up to $75,000 in annual income and families earning up to $150,00 were eligible for payments of $1,400 per person. The payments would phase out for higher incomes. For example, an individual making $80,000 and a family making over $160,000 would not get a payment at all.

What To Do If There’s No More Stimulus Aid
The idea of not getting another stimulus check may be disappointing, especially at a time when inflation is rampant and everything seems to cost more. But you can still take steps to boost your income.
First, research salary data to see if you’re being paid a fair wage where you work. If not, you can either fight for a raise or dust off your resume and seek out a new employment opportunity. Or if you’re looking for extra work, the gig economy is still very much alive, which means you have a chance to take on a side hustle for extra money.
You can also put yourself on a stricter budget if you’re struggling to make ends meet. That could mean cutting back on some expenses temporarily until the cost of living dips back downward.
Of course, if the economic situation takes a drastic turn for the worse, then a follow-up stimulus round could be in the cards. But that’s a scenario no one should hope for.
