Depending On Your Current Salary You May Want To File Your Taxes As Soon As Possible Or You May Have Reason To Wait
The IRS has said it will look at your most recent tax return to determine if you are eligible for the third stimulus paymentso either your 2019 return or your 2020 return, depending on how soon you file this year. And as Kari Brummond, a tax preparer and accounting writer for TaxDebtHelp, explains, if your income decreased from 2019 to 2020 or you had a child, you may benefit from filing as soon as possible because you may be eligible for more money based on your 2020 tax return.
However, for those whose income increased from 2019 to 2020, you may want to wait to file as this increase may push you over the eligibility requirements, forcing you to forgo a third stimulus check.
“In a nutshell, taxpayers who earned less in 2020 than 2019 may want to file as soon as possible. Those who earned less in 2019 than 2020 may want to wait to file their tax returns until they have received their stimulus checks,” Brummond explains. This set income caps at $80,000 for individuals, $120,000 for single parents, and $160,000 for joint-filerswhich is $20,000 lower than the income caps were for the last stimulus payments. Coronavirus Stimulus Checks For Homeowners
This benefit for homeowners, called Homeowners Assistance Fund , is part of Bidens American Rescue Plan. The $1.9 trillion plan, which was signed into law in March, sets aside $10 billion for the Homeowners Assistance Fund.
The fund ensures at least $50 million to each state, as well as for Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. Further, it ensures $498 million for the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands and designated housing entities.
This fund aims to support homeowners hit hard by the pandemic and are unable to make their mortgage payments and are facing delinquencies and foreclosures. Eligible homeowners can use the money to cover mortgage payments, cost of utilities, homeowners insurance and other related essentials.
The Treasury Department is responsible for the distribution of the Homeowners Assistance Fund. It has set up many eligibility requirements to ensure that the money reaches those who need it the most.
This program could provide a much needed benefit to millions of homeowners across the nation. Fox News reports that over 3 million households are behind on their mortgage payments and about 1.7 million will exit their forbearance period in September.

Why Refinance Second Mortgages
There are a number of reasons to refinance a second mortgage. Many times, they may be different than the reason used to refinance the first time.
Some borrowers may refinance for lower interest rates, especially if those rates are significantly lower than when they took out their second mortgage, or if their financial situation has improved. This is a common step taken by people with improved credit scores.
The types of second mortgages people may want to refinance for lower interest rates include:
- Piggyback Loan: This is a home equity loan or line of credit that is made at the same time as your main mortgage. It allows borrowers with low down-payment savings to acquire loans for more funds to lower their loan-to-value ratio and to qualify for a mortgage without paying private mortgage insurance .
- Home equity line of credit : This is essentially a revolving source of funds that you can access as you choose. HELOCs usually include a withdrawal period, where you can access as little or as much of your available funds as you want, followed by a repayment period that requires you to pay back the principal, plus interest.
- Home equity loan: This is a loan in which you use your home equity as collateral. It comes as a lump sum of cash.

Other Ways To Get Cash
Although not an offer of government support, there are other ways to supplement one’s income.
Some include a cash-back program that allows people to receive credit for purchasing goods.
For example, major cashback site Ibotta claims its average user earns $150 each year from online purchases and groceries.
And TopCashback claims it gives its average member $345 in cash back.
Other incentives come through banks offering huge sign-up bonuses during the pandemic.
There are even sign-up bonuses for getting a job during the nationwide labor shortage.
Given that there is a massive labor shortage, some companies are paying thousands in hiring bonuses in an effort to lure workers in.
In Florida, for instance, teachers and principals will receive $1,000 in stimulus cash for their commitment to educating during the pandemic.
Other states are running similar programs for the education sector and other industries.
How To Refinance Second Mortgages
Refinancing a second mortgage requires almost the same steps as refinancing the first mortgage. In most cases, youll have to wait at least 12 months from when you were approved for the second mortgage before refinancing it. Most lenders also require you to have at least 20% equity in your home. If you plan to refinance with a different lender, you may want to check with the lender who holds your second mortgage before pursuing refinancing.
It may be slightly more difficult to find a lender, as refinancing second mortgages carries more risk for the lender. If for any reason your house is foreclosed, the second lender only gets whats left over after the first lender is paid off. Nonetheless, if you have good credit, a stable income, and youve made your mortgage payments on time, you should be able to find a lender willing to help you refinance your second mortgage.
Before considering refinancing any mortgage, you should do your research, speak with your financial advisor, and calculate whether youll benefit financially by refinancing. Depending on the fees, the cost of refinancing a second mortgage may outweigh the benefits.
Once youve decided that refinancing your second mortgage is the right choice, figure out if you would qualify for favorable interest rates by checking your credit score and assessing your financial situation. Your lender may look at your other debts, so determine your debt-to-income ratio.
