When Is The Latest Round Of Stimulus Payments Expected For Ssi Ssdi Beneficiaries And Veterans
Federal beneficiaries who filed a 2019 or 2020 tax return or used the Non-Filers tool in 2020 may have already received a stimulus payment, or could get one in a future batch of checks being sent out by the government.
For most everyone else, payments started going out on April 7 by direct deposit or on your Direct Express card. For those receiving payments through the mail, those checks began on April 9. If you have a foreign address and don’t typically file a tax return, electronic payments went out around April 21 and paper checks on April 23. Veterans who don’t file taxes ordinarily should have received their payment on April 14.
The IRS and Treasury will use the information it has on file to automatically send you a check . People who have already filed a 2020 tax return this year to claim missing stimulus money may find that the IRS will use this information instead of your 2019 details if it has processed your latest return .
Some people may need to file a 2020 tax return, even if they don’t usually file, so the IRS has all the information needed to send payments to cover eligible dependents.
If Your Benefits Were Cut
In 2021, when the last set of stimulus payments to date was issued, the limits were $794 a month for an individual SSI recipient and $1,191 for a married couple when both spouses are eligible.
The SSA says it is reviewing records going back to the start of the pandemic to identify SSI beneficiaries whose payments were reduced or terminated because they received stimulus checks. If this is your situation, you should not have to take any action. The agency will notify you by mail when it has restored your benefits or claim status or if it needs information from you to do so.

How The $2000 Asset Limit Could Change
SSI beneficiaries are currently subject to a $2,000 asset cap for individuals and $3,000 for couples.
The Social Security Administration calls this a “resource limit,” which includes assets a person owns that can be turned into cash, such as bank accounts, stocks, bonds or other property.
Brown and Portman’s bill seeks to raise those limits, which have not been changed since 1984, to $10,000 for individuals and $20,000 for couples.
The bill would also index those caps to inflation, so they would be adjusted annually.
For now, SSI beneficiaries can count on the fact that the two checks they receive in September will not push them above that $2,000 asset threshold.
“The bottom line is, you don’t have to go out on a binge or spend more money than you would prefer not to, because that $2,000 limit doesn’t apply to the second check,” said Richard Weishaupt, senior attorney at Community Legal Services of Philadelphia.
Will The Irs Offer Its Non
For the first stimulus check, the IRS required those who had just started to receive SSDI or SSI to use the “non-filer page” to file the simple tax return. Individuals who had already been receiving Social Security disability, SSI, or veterans benefits should have automatically received the stimulus money without filing a simple tax return, but they had to submit their non-filer information to the IRS to get $500 for each child under 17. The IRS did not make the non-filer tool available for the second stimulus payment, and it is unknown whether they will do so for the third stimulus payment.

Payment Status Not Available Message
If you aren’t having luck with the Get My Payment tool, keep checking your bank account or Direct Express card, or wait for a letter from the IRS. The IRS will mail you a letter several weeks after the agency deposits your stimulus money or mails your paper check. The letter will tell you how and when the payment was made. If you didn’t receive the money, the letter will tell you how to contact the IRS.
Some disability recipients saw this message when they logged on to the IRS’s Get My Payment tool in January or February: Payment Status #2 – Not Available. The IRS has indicated that these individuals will not receive a stimulus check by direct deposit or mail, and they will have to file a 2020 tax return to claim their Recovery Rebate Credit . See above for instructions on claiming the rebate on your tax return. These messages have now disappeared and will be replaced by information about the third payment.
Did Your Income Drop In 2021 Because You Were Disabled
The third federal stimulus payment was limited to people whose income did not exceed an eligibility cap. But the income used to calculate your eligibility was that reported on your 2020 income tax return. What if you became disabled in 2021 and you suffered a severe cut in your income?
Eligibility for the first two stimulus checks were also limited by income, but the ceiling was much higher. For the third stimulus payment, anyone making the following incomes were not eligible:
- Single with income above $80,000
- Head of household income above $120,000
If you earned above these levels in 2020, then you would not have received a third-round stimulus payment. However, if you became disabled in 2021, and your income dropped below these levels, then you should have received the third stimulus check. As we noted, you can correct the error on your 2021 income tax return by entering the amount you are owed on line 30.
If You Did Not Get Your 1st or 2nd Stimulus Payment

If you were eligible to receive Economic Impact Payments but did not get them, it may be because you did not file federal income tax returns for 2019 or 2020. When Will I Get The Stimulus Check
Those who filed tax returns in 2019 or 2020 and gave their bank information to the IRS so their refunds could be direct-deposited should receive their third stimulus payment in mid-March. The IRS says it will announce dates soon for when disability and SSI recipients can expect their checks.
The IRS will also upload new payment data to its “Get My Payment” tool soon, so you can check to see if and when your payment was issued.
If you receive monthly payments by a Direct Express card, you may not recognize the bank account information shown in the Get My Payment tool it may be a number associated with your Direct Express card.
What Are Stimulus Check Scams
Some people have reported getting phone calls and emails from people trying to scam them. The scammers claim to be from the Internal Revenue Service or the Treasury Department. They may even ask you about your financial details for advance fees. You must not respond to these fraud emails. The IRS does not ask for any advance fees or any personal information in order to pay your stimulus for social security disability.
The IRS always mails a letter to an eligible individual 15 days before they will credit any stimulus money to their account. This letter will provide complete information about how the payment will be made. If you misplaced your letter and need to request a replacement from the IRS, you can easily do so.

Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul announced a new final rule today, modernizing an agency disability rule that was introduced in 1978 and has remained unchanged. The new regulation, Removing the Inability to Communicate in English as an Education Category, updates a disability rule that was more than 40 years old and did not reflect work in the modern economy. This final rule has been in the works for a number of years and updates an antiquated policy that makes the inability to communicate in English a factor in awarding disability benefits.
It is important that we have an up-to-date disability program, Commissioner Saul said. The workforce and work opportunities have changed and outdated regulations need to be revised to reflect todays world.
A successful disability system must evolve and support the right decision as early in the process as possible. Social Securitys disability rules must continue to reflect current medicine and the evolution of work.
Social Security is required to consider education to determine if someones medical condition prevents work, but research shows the inability to communicate in English is no longer a good measure of educational attainment or the ability to engage in work. This rule is another important step in the agencys efforts to modernize its disability programs.
The rule will be effective on April 27, 2020.
