“The third round of Economic Impact Payments, including the ‘plus-up’ payments, were advance payments of the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit that would be claimed on a 2021 tax return. Plus-up payments were for people who may have received their EIP after the IRS received updated eligibility information about them.
When Will The Third Stimulus Check Be Issued
The government started sending the third stimulus checks on March 12, 2021. The IRS continues to send third stimulus checks as people submit their information to the IRS either by filing a 2020 tax return or using GetCTC.org. The deadline to use GetCTC.org is November 15, 2021.
If you have your banking information on file, the IRS sent your payment via direct deposit. Otherwise, you will receive your payment as a check or debit card via mail. Mailed checks and debit cards may take longer to deliver.
If you dont fall into any of these categories, youll have to wait to receive your third stimulus check. You will need to file a 2020 federal tax return to get the third stimulus check or use GetCTC.org if you dont have a filing requirement.
You can also get the first and second stimulus check as the Recovery Rebate Credit on your tax return or GetCTC.org if you are eligible.
Third Payments Differed From Previous Economic Impact Payments
The third payments differed from the earlier payments in several respects:
- Income phaseout amounts changed. Payments were reduced for individuals with adjusted gross income of more than $75,000 . The reduced payments ended at $80,000 for individuals and $160,000 for married filing jointly. People above these levels did not receive any payment.
- Payment amounts are different. Most families received $1,400 per person, including all dependents claimed on their tax return. Typically, this means a single person with no dependents received $1,400, while married filers with two dependents received $5,600.
- Qualifying dependents expanded. Unlike the first two payments, the third payment was not restricted to children under 17. Eligible individuals received a payment based on all of their qualifying dependents claimed on their return, including older relatives like college students, adults with disabilities, parents and grandparents.

St Round Of Stimulus Checks: April 2020
It was specified in the CAREs Act that qualified tax-paying adults would get a check of up to $1,200 and their dependent children under the age of 16 would receive checks of up to $500 as part of a stimulus package .
Those earning less than $75,000 were eligible for the payments, which were provided to those earning up to $99,000 . Individuals received their first stimulus payments on April 11 and 12, either by direct deposit into their bank accounts, paper checks mailed to them, or the Economic Impact Payment Card, a prepaid debit card delivered to them in late May or early June of last year.
Impact Of The Coronavirus Stimulus Checks On The Economy
The emergence of the COVID-19 virus early in 2020 had a huge impact on this countrys economy, with federal and state agencies, as well as many private companies from different sectors, forced to stop their operations in order to preserve the health of their workforce and to prevent the spread of the virus. As a result, the unemployment rate suffered a substantial increase, reaching 14.7% in April 2020, the highest rate observed since data collection began in 1948. The second stimulus package, The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021, was signed by former President Donald J. Trump on December 27, 2020. It was a $900 billion package that included disbursements of up to $600 per household plus an additional $600 for dependent children ages 16 or under. As in the previous stimulus package, those individuals who earned up to $75,000 in 2019 received the full stimulus check, while a gradually smaller figure was provided to those with higher annual incomes, up to a maximum of $87,000.

How Much Does The Third Stimulus Check Pay
The $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief plan includes a third round of $1,400 stimulus payments, topping off the $600 checks that were already approved by Congress in December 2020, and adding up to $2,000.
Congress passed the coronavirus relief plan with targeted income limits for maximum stimulus payments to individual taxpayers earning under $75,000 and joint filers making up to $150,000. But whereas the first and second rounds of stimulus payments phased out checks on a sliding scale of $5 for every $100 over the income limit, the new plan cuts off high earners at $80,000 for individuals and $160,000 for couples.

Proposals For A Second Bill
By July, there were proposals for a second stimulus bill, the CARES 2 package was reviewed by the administration and an agreement in principle was reached on the basic points outlined in the package but it was never passed. Nor was the HEROES Act, a $3 trillion economic stimulus bill which was passed by the House by a vote of 208199 on 15 May 15 2020 but never reached a Senate vote.

How Can I Check My Stimulus Check Status
The IRS has created a website where you can check the status of your stimulus payment.
The Get My Payment tool is no longer updating for either the first or second stimulus check. However, you can use it to see the status of your third check.
- If your payment has been processed. the IRS will specify its status including whether it has been sent, the date issued, and whether the money will be directly deposited or mailed.
- If your status reads “Payment Not Available.” The IRS either hasn’t yet processed your payment or you aren’t eligible for one.
- If it reads “Need More Information.” Your check was returned to the IRS after an attempted delivery. Give the IRS your bank information to receive your money.
If you did not get your first or second check, you’ll need to file a 2020 tax return to get the payment.
How Many Stimulus Checks Did Americans Get
In total, Americans received three stimulus checks since 2020.
The first round of checks was authorized under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, that President Donald Trump signed on March 27, 2020.
The payments for the first checks were $1,200 per person, or $2,400 for those filing jointly, plus $500 per qualifying child.
In December 2020, the second round of stimulus checks was sent out as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act.
The payments for the second checks were $600 per person, or $1,200 for married individuals, plus $600 for each qualifying child.
One year following the first checks, the third round of stimulus checks was sent out earlier in March under the American Rescue Plan.
The payments for the third checks was $1,400 per person, or $2,800 for married couples, plus an additional $1,400 per eligible child.

How Much Is The Third Stimulus Check
If you are eligible, you could get up to $1,400 in stimulus payments for each taxpayer in your family plus an additional $1,400 per dependent. That means that a family of four with two children could receive up to $5,600.

In some instances, the IRS offsets a portion of the payment sent to a spouse who filed an injured spouse claim if it has been offset by the non-injured spouses past-due child support. The FAQ on the IRS stimulus FAQ www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payment-information-center website states: The IRS is aware that in some instances a portion of the payment sent to a spouse who filed an injured spouse claim with his or her 2019 tax return has been offset by the non-injured spouses past-due child support. The IRS is working with the Bureau of the Fiscal Service and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Child Support Enforcement, to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. If you filed an injured spouse claim with your return and are impacted by this issue, you do not need to take any action. The injured spouse will receive their unpaid half of the total payment when the issue is resolved.

When Can We Expect The Next Stimulus Check
The third stimulus check passed through a process called “budget reconciliation,” which allowed Democrats to push the legislation through with a simple majority vote in the Senate. The bill did not get any Republican support.
There is a limit on the number of times reconciliation can be used. Democrats are now focused on other priorities and Republicans have made it clear they’re not interested in providing additional COVID relief. As such, it’s unlikely a fourth stimulus check will be authorized. This is especially true as states ease lockdowns and vaccinations ramp up.

When Should I Get My Payment
The IRS was given hard and fast deadlines to send the two rounds of Economic Impact Payments out to American families. The first round of payments had to be sent out by December 31, 2020. The second round had to be sent out by January 15, 2021.

However, this time despite workers out sick or quarantining no new federal stimulus checks look set to be sent out.
In a recent press release the Internal Revenue Service put out its annual report highlighting the efforts of its employees in 2021. One of the accomplishments touted by the agency has been successfully delivering more than $1.5 trillion to people across the nation through Economic Impact Payments, tax refunds and advance Child Tax Credit payments. Here’s a look at the three Economic Impact Payments, better known as stimulus checks.

California Middle Class Refund Checks
Starting in October, millions of Californians will receive inflation relief checks of up to $1,050, either as a direct deposit or in the mail as a debit card. The payments are coming out of California’s $97 billion budget surplus. The state expects 95% of the payments to go out in 2022, with the remaining checks due .
How much California residents will receive is based on income, tax-filing status and household size from their 2020 tax return.
- Single taxpayers who earn less than $75,000 a year and couples who file jointly and make less than $150,000 a year will receive $350 per taxpayer and another $350 if they have any dependents. A married couple with children, therefore, could receive as much as $1,050.
- Individual filers who make between $75,000 and $125,000 a year — and couples who earn between $150,000 and $250,000 — will receive $250 per taxpayer, plus another $250 if they have any dependents. A family with children could therefore receive a total of $750.
- Individual filers who earn between $125,000 and $250,000 and couples who earn between $250,000 and $500,000 annually would receive $200 each. A family with children in this bracket could receive a maximum of $600.
Single taxpayers earning $250,000 or above and couples earning a combined $500,000 are ineligible for the payments.
Direct Payments Round : December 2020
President Trump signed a $900 billion assistance package into law on December 27, 2020, as part of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021. It offered a lump-sum payment of up to $600, with an extra $600 available for households with children under the age of 16 who were dependents.
People making less than $75,000 received the full stimulus payment, but those making more than that received a gradually lower amount, up to a maximum phase-out limit of $87,000 for 2019. Direct deposit and paper checks were the primary methods of payment, with EIP 2 Cards being used for certain subsequent payments. Payments were made between December 29, 2020, and January 15, 2021.
If you didnt get a stimulus payment from either the Covid-19 Relief bill in December or the CARES Act, you can claim it retroactively when you file your federal tax returns for 2020.

The First Round Of Stimulus Checks
The first round of stimulus payments were authorized under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act. In 2020, the IRS had issued 162 million payments totaling $271 billion. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that those first-round payments will eventually cost a total of $292 billion.
Those initial payments issued earlier in 2020 were $1,200 per person, or $2,400 for those filing jointly, plus $500 per qualifying child. The payments began phasing out at the same income levels as the current payments, but since the payments authorized under the CARES Act were larger, the maximum income levels to receive a payment were also larger:
- $99,000 for single taxpayers
- $136,500 for taxpayers filing as head of household
- $198,000 for married couples filing jointly
Amount And Status Of Your Third Payment
You can no longer use the Get My Payment application to check your payment status.
To find the amount of the third payment, create or view your online account or refer to IRS Notice 1444-C, which we mailed after sending your payment. Were also sending Letter 6475 through March 2022 confirming the total amount of the third Economic Impact Payment and any plus-up payments you were issued for tax year 2021.
You can also securely access your individual tax information with an IRS online account to view your total Economic Impact Payment amounts under the 2021 tax year tab. You will need the total of the third payment and any plus-up payments you received to accurately calculate the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit when you file your 2021 federal tax return in 2022.
