The government will issue $1,400 stimulus checks to Social Security and other federal beneficiaries who do not typically file tax returns starting this weekend, according to the IRS and Treasury Department. Most of those payments will be sent electronically and received on April 7, the agencies said.

Will Seniors Get A Fourth Stimulus Check In 2021

While it does not have a fourth stimulus check for seniors in it, there are some provisions for seniors. The bill has Medicare expanding so it can include hearing benefits as well has making negotiating drug prices easier for the government. The bill was not passed in 2021, but there is hope for it in 2022.

Fourth Stimulus Check For Ss Beneficiaries: $1400 For Seniors Likely To Arrive 2022

With the U.S. public facing an increased risk of economic troubles due to a sharp increase in COVID-19 infections as a result of the Omicron variant, a fourth stimulus check for the elderly has become an essential next step.

During the COVID-19, three rounds of stimulus checks were distributed to citizens in the U.S. as the government sought to provide financial support amid rising inflation and job uncertainty however, while a fourth stimulus check does not appear likely, Social Security beneficiaries may be in line for a surprise stimulus check package.

The Senior Citizens League has been lobbying Congress for another one-time Social Security stimulus payment of $1,400 for seniors since the beginning of 2022. This is in response to the current ambiguity in the U.S., which has arisen as a result of the rise in COVID-19 infections since the emergence of the new Omicron variant.

In essence, the payment would be a fourth stimulus check.

The cost-of-living adjustment for 2022 has risen to its highest level in four decades, putting many seniors in a higher tax band. As a result, the stimulus payment is projected to assist in offsetting the higher expenditures.

TSCL has received almost 95,000 signatures on a petition about the $1,400 check for SS pensioners, so the pressure is mounting.

However, after crucial moderate Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin declared that he would not support the Build Back Better Act, the bill could not be passed before Christmas.

Why Is The Fourth Stimulus For Seniors Needed

To receive these benefits, one cannot work, making their income fixed. During the pandemic, supply chains broke down, causing bottlenecks that limited the supply of goods, leading to an increase in price.

The prices for basic goods — food, gas, clothing are all up significantly over their pre-pandemic levels and seniors are starting to feel the pain.

What Is The Child Tax Credit

The enhanced Child Tax Credit increased this benefit as high as $3,600 a child in 2021, up from its normal amount of $2,000 per child. The tax credit is aimed at helping parents pay for the cost of raising children.

The IRS sent monthly checks to parents with eligible children for the last six months of 2021, which represented half of the annual credit. The IRS said that families can claim the other half of the credit now even if they received monthly checks in the second half of 2021.

Fourth Stimulus Check Update: $1400 For Social Security Members

Taking all of this into consideration, Delaney launched an online petition calling for a special $1,400 stimulus check. He said the one-time payment could defray costs not only for this year, but also for the 2022 expenses. The petition is available on both online and paper print. Interested supporters can visit this website to sign the petition.

According to AS, the petition reached over a million signatures at the time of writing. However, note that there have been no national polls conducted to study the public opinion of the idea.

Unfortunately, lawmakers and leaders have not yet acknowledged this petition either. Their focus seemed to have shifted away to other financial aid programs across the country.

The online petition and its supporters continue to pressure Congress for the additional stimulus money, so the situation is still developing. For now, it is on a wait-and-see status for all involved parties.

Social Security recipients might have to wait for a few more weeks on the update. Hopefully, the petition and budget plan might be acknowledged before the year ends.

What senior citizens need to know about stimulus checks

The last time the federal government sent out stimulus checks was in 2021, but as GOBankingRates previously reported, there are still roughly 9 million people who have not claimed their money.

For the most part, those are individuals who have not filed their 2021 tax return, and as a result, have not been able to take advantage of last years stimulus payments, earned income tax credits, child tax credits and additional benefits.

The department mailed out letters to eligible individuals and is keeping open its FreeFile platform through Nov. 17 so those who are owed can easily get their documentation in and get their money, which is $1,400 for the stimulus payment alone.

Schedule Of Social Security Payments For Seniors Aged 67 And Over For The Remainder Of 2022

In United States households, stimulus checks and Social Security benefits are very important. This is because many families live largely on this source of income alone. For that reason it is vitally important that a new 4th stimulus check may be on the way. Despite this, there is nothing certain about it, so right now we can only wait. However, there is positive news and the situation could emerge where this new stimulus check finally reaches American families. As time goes on we will see.

With the whole situation coming from inflation, any economic benefit is little. Thats why stimulus checks of this kind, along with the Social Security benefit, are indispensable. The popular petition for this new stimulus check was born in Denver and the whole proposal comes from a restaurant owner. In the description of his petition created on change.org we can see that he writes Our country is still deeply struggling. With this he refers to that lack of stable economy that American homes suffer in recent years.

Whether due to pandemic, the invasion of Ukraine or any other reason, the truth is that Americans are not going through a very good time. At least a large part of American citizens. For that reason, it is essential to be able to collect a 4th stimulus check while also being able to claimSocial Security retirement or disability benefits. These two elements combined could be of remarkable benefit to all American households.

Child Tax Credit: December End

Some families received another form of stimulus aid when the IRS in July deposited the first of six monthly cash payments into bank accounts of parents who qualify for the Child Tax Credit . Families on average received $423 in their first CTC payment, according to an analysis of Census data from the left-leaning advocacy group Economic Security Project.

Eligible families received up to $1,800 in cash through December, with the money parceled out in equal installments over the six months from July through December. The aid was due to the expanded CTC, which is part of President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan.

Families who qualify received $300 per month for each child under 6 and $250 for children between 6 to 17 years old. Several families that spoke to CBS MoneyWatch said the extra money would go toward child care, back-to-school supplies and other essentials.

While progressives and some Democrats urged lawmakers to continue the enhanced CTC, it appears stalled at the moment. That means families won’t receive a CTC payment in January or beyond.

Other Help For Social Security Claimants

The Social Security Administration looks at the cost of living and makes any necessary increases to Social Security benefits.

This practice has been going on since the 1950s to offset inflation for people living on a fixed income.

The cost-of-living adjustment for 2022 increased to 5.9 percent, one of the biggest on record.

The Social Security Administration is estimating that the number could rise by another eight percent next year, but no official decision will come until later in the year.

It does mean about 70million Americans will almost certainly receive a significant monthly increase in their benefits in 2023.

However, based on the most recent Consumer Price Index report from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, which showed inflation in June surging 9.1% from the previous year, the Senior Citizens League said the COLA for 2023 could be about 10.5%.

Keep in mind, despite the increases each year, high inflation has lowered Social Security claimant’s buying power by about 40 percent since 2000.

You Don’t Have To Wait For The Third Stimulus Payment To File Your Taxes In General

Americans could receive stimulus payments as early as tonight, Mnuchin ...

Deciding when to file your taxes is a personal choice, experts say. But no matter what, you don’t have to wait to file your tax return just because you may be waiting on a third stimulus check. According to Ben Reynolds, chief executive officer and founder of Sure Dividend, “You don’t need to include any information on a third stimulus when you file for your 2020 taxes.” Instead, these stimulus payments will go on your 2021 taxes next year. And much like the last two stimulus payments, you may be able to receive a Recovery Rebate Credit when filing for your 2021 taxes if your income or dependents significantly changed from 2020 to 2021, Reynolds explains. And for more recent stimulus news, If You’ve Done This in the Past Year, Your Stimulus Check Could Be Delayed.

Fourth Stimulus Check: Who Is Asking For Another Round Of Payments Why They Are Asking And How Likely Is It To Happen

It’s unlikely that a fourth stimulus is in the near future, but there are several groups who believe it is necessary.

While it doesnt appear that a fourth stimulus payment will be in the works anytime soon, there has been, at least, a bit of buzz about the need for another round of payments as Americans struggle to recover amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

And CBS News took a stab at explaining just who and what is behind the push for a fourth stimulus check this week.

And it checks just about all the boxes you might expect.

First, the report breaks down money already paid out through the first three stimulus payments which should come out to $3,200 for 169 million or so Americans. But, CBS points out that money has already been spent and millions of Americans remain in financial distress, and the spread of the Omicron variant is creating new economic headwinds. The report cites Decembers Census survey which reportedly said that a quarter of Americans struggled to pay their household expenses in the previous week. And while the economy has seen gains, CBS also points out that the employment rate 4.2 percent is still above the 3.5-percent that it was at pre-pandemic. It said that number equates to around 2.3-million fewer folks who are working today than prior to the pandemic.

Social Security Benefits And Issues: A Rise In Cost Of Living

For reference, AS and the Bureau of Labor Statistics said consumers are paying up to 6.2 percent more than October 2020 in the market. Costs for food is up by 5.3 percent, and energy or electricity is more than thirty percent.

Keep in mind that seniors receive fixed income from Social Security benefits. With added costs but no extra income, these seniors suffer a decrease in purchasing power. This is why they have to cut their allowances, groceries, and medical budgets.

It is worth noting that over the years, the increase in COLAs has also raised the social security benefits to match up with circumstances. In these last 21 years, Social Security benefits rose by 55 percent, housing budget by 118 percent and healthcare budget by 145 percent. However, it is not enough. Cost of living still outpaced COLA increase in the market.

Fourth Stimulus Checks For Seniors Why One Group Says Payments Are Vital

VERIFY: Are you getting a 4th stimulus check?

As officials work to project the long term impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, one group is calling on Congress to issue a fourth round of stimulus checks, just for older Americans.

Nonpartisan advocacy group The Senior Citizens League is warning that the cost of goods and services is rising for people with fixed incomes, months before next years federal cost-of-living bump.

Government economic experts estimated recent increases in inflation mean the cost-of-living adjustment for 2022 will approach 6%, a whopping jump from the 1.3% COLA awarded for this year.

Some of that may go for higher Medicare costs, however. The Medicare Part B premium for outpatient coverage was projected to rise by $10 a month in 2022, to $158.50 under the reports intermediate assumptions. The official number wont be released until later this year.

According to The Senior Citizens League, older Americans are already under pressure from other rising, unavoidable costs such as food, housing and transportation.

Now, The Senior Citizens League is mounting a campaign to urge Congress to pass a fourth round of stimulus checks that would send $1,400 payments to Social Security recipients only.

The group states on their petition:

TSCL officials said an email that went out last week to seniors prompted more than 100 replies, Mary Johnson, a Social Security and Medicare policy analyst with the group told CNBC.

The Senior Citizens League Calling For A Stimulus

The Senior Citizens League has brought attention to the fact that inflation has dramatically decreased the buying power of everyone, but particularly Social Security retirement beneficiaries. Social Security recipients have had their buying power reduced by 40% since 2000.

TSCL Chairman Rick Delaney sent a letter to Congress last year outlining the hardships that citizens are facing and requested additional aid for seniors.

Thousands of seniors have exhausted their retirement savings already and now many can barely afford their prescriptions. TSCL has also started a petition that calls on Congress to send $1,400 stimulus checks to senior citizens.

A report from the National Council on Aging says that more than 15 million seniors are considered economically insecure.

Despite efforts of TSCL, lawmakers havent made any proposals acting on their requests.

However, this group does benefit from federal schemes. For example, the COLA adjustment was 5.9% for 2022 though many claim that it wasnt enough.

I Receive Social Security Benefits Am I Also Eligible To Receive A Stimulus Check

Yes. The CARES Act included direct payments to most Americans, including Social Security recipients. As long as your adjusted gross income is $75,000 or less , you should be eligible for a $1,200 stimulus check. The amount of the check gradually decreases once your AGI exceeds those thresholds. You won’t be eligible for a stimulus payment once your income hits $99,000 for singles .
