If the following describes you, you may need to sign up online in order to get your stimulus check:
- You are a U.S. citizen, a permanent resident, or a U.S. resident alien with a social security number.
- You have a Social Security number.
- You are a non-filer, meaning you havent filed a tax return in the last two years because you did not earn enough income.
- Your annual income is under $75,000. If you are married and filing jointly, the threshold is $150,000.
- Unlike the first two rounds of stimulus money, adult dependents of U.S. taxpayers are now eligible to receive the $1,400 payments. This time, that includes people 17 and up.
The IRS has closed the form that non-filers used to access their stimulus money in 2020. Instead of using that form, they are now asking all non-filers to fill out a simplified tax return to receive stimulus money. This simplified tax return is due on April 15th. Scroll to the bottom of this article for a list or organizations that can help you file a simplified tax return.
Once you have collected all the information below, you will be ready to fill out the simplified tax return, which will help ensure that you receive your $1,400 check. That form can be found here.
Heres what youll need.
First, you will need your Social Security number.If you do not have your Social Security number, you will need a government issued ID and a mailing address to request a new card from the Social Security Administration. This task can be accomplished online.

If you’re eligible for an Economic Impact Payment and didn’t receive it via direct deposit or paper check, you could be among the approximately four million Americans getting a card.
Chances are, you won’t be alerted ahead of time that your payment is coming in the form of a prepaid card: The decision to mail them out wasn’t widely known before the first batch was sent in May. Look out for a plain envelope from “Money Network,” a division of Fiserv, which is a global provider of financial services technology.

WASHINGTON As Economic Impact Payments continue to be successfully delivered, the Internal Revenue Service today reminds taxpayers that some payments are being sent by prepaid debit card. The debit cards arrive in a plain envelope from “Money Network Cardholder Services.”
Nearly 4 million people are being sent their Economic Impact Payment by prepaid debit card, instead of paper check. The determination of which taxpayers received a debit card was made by the Bureau of the Fiscal Service, a part of the Treasury Department that works with the IRS to handle distribution of the payments.
Those who receive their Economic Impact Payment by prepaid debit card can do the following without any fees.
- Make purchases online and at any retail location where Visa is accepted
- Get cash from in-network ATMs
- Transfer funds to their personal bank account
- Check their card balance online, by mobile app or by phone
This free, prepaid card also provides consumer protections available to traditional bank account owners, including protection against fraud, loss and other errors.
Undelivered Federal Tax Refund Checks
Refund checks are mailed to your last known address. If you move without notifying the IRS or the U.S. Postal Service , your refund check may be returned to the IRS.
If you were expecting a federal tax refund and did not receive it, check the IRSâWheres My Refund page. Youâll need to enter your Social Security number, filing status, and the exact whole dollar amount of your refund. You may be prompted to change your address online.

How To Claim A Missing Payment
You may be eligible to claim a Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 or 2021 federal tax return if you didn’t get an Economic Impact Payment or got less than the full amount.
It is important to understand that the Economic Impact Payments applied to different tax years. Depending on whether you missed the first, second or third payment, you will need to file either a 2020 or 2021 tax return to claim a Recovery Rebate Credit.

These may be recurring transactions which are automatically charged to your card. Examples of merchants that may use recurring transactions include video rental services, internet service providers, health clubs, insurance companies, or cable TV services. Contact the service provider or merchant directly if you want to cancel these services.
Are there any merchants where I canât use my card?
Turbo Card may not be used at certain types of merchants such as casinos and gambling web sites.
It is the policy of some merchants to not accept prepaid cards. Check with the merchant before attempting to make a purchase.
The Turbo Card is also not designed for business use and we may close your card if you use it for business purposes. We may block card usage in some countries due to fraud or security concerns.

Paying at the pump with the credit function may cause up to a 7-day hold because you swipe and authorize your card before pumping. To be charged the exact amount you pump, choose debit and use your PIN. You can also pay the attendant and be charged the exact amount you pump.

Dont Use Your Stimulus Debit Card At The Wrong Atm
You can get cash from your stimulus debit card at any ATM, up to $1,000 per day . However, its important that you use the right ATM so it doesnt cost you extra.
When you use your stimulus debit card at an ATM within the AllPoint network, you wont pay a fee at all. You can find a list of all the network ATMs on the EIP Card website.
But if you use a machine outside of that network, youre at risk of paying not just one, but two separate fees. First, Metabank, which issues the card on behalf of the Treasury Department, will charge you a $2 fee each time you withdraw cash on a non-network ATM .
And second, the owner of the ATM itself may charge you a fee, which can range from 99 cents to several dollars, depending on the machine. Plus, if you happen to be outside the US, youll be charged an even higher $3 fee by Metabank to withdraw cash from an ATM, no matter what machine you use, plus any additional fee charged by the ATM operator.
So if youre going to withdraw cash from your stimulus debit card using an ATM, youll want to make sure youre doing it only at a network ATM in the US.

I Would Like To Pay A Bill That Doesnt Allow Payment With Debit Cards How Can I Do This Without Paying A Fee
You can pay rent, bills, or other payments from your account using a Money Network Check without paying a fee.
To do this, you need to:
- Request a Money Network Check by calling customer service at 1-800-240-8100
- Check your balance to make sure you have enough funds to cover your payment
- When you receive the check, fill out the date, dollar amount, and name of who you are paying
- Activate your check by calling customer service at 1-800-240-8100 and following the instructions to enter the check number, digit, and amount, and record the issuer number and transaction number provided by the automated phone system
- Once you have successfully activated your check, the payment will be immediately deducted from your account balance and you can send your payment for your rent or other bill
Tip: If you occasionally pay a bill with a money order, consider using a Money Network Check to pay your bill instead to avoid paying a money order fee.

As with many prepaid, debit, or credit cards, there are limits on how much you can spend in a 24-hour period.
For Netspend cards, you can spend up to $4,999.99 on purchase transactions or over-the-counter cash withdrawals in a 24-hour period.
For ATM cash withdrawals, this is limited to $325 per withdrawal and up to $940 per 24 hours. Fees may apply, see your Cardholder Agreement for more information.
What Does The Stimulus Check Portal Do
The updated âGet My Paymentâ tool lets you:
- Check the status of your stimulus payment
- Confirm your payment type and
- Get a projected direct deposit or paper check delivery date .
For first-round stimulus payments, you could also use the portal to enter or change your bank account information to have your payment directly deposited into your account. However, that feature isnât included in the current tool . The IRS already has bank account information for millions of Americans from recent tax returns, tax payments, the original âGet My Paymentâ tool, the non-filers tool used last year, other federal agencies that regularly send out benefit payments , and federal records of recent payments to or from the government. So, the tax agency is generally limiting direct deposit payments to bank accounts that they already have on file. As a result, you canât change your bank information using the âGet My Paymentâ tool.
If your payment isnât deposited directly into your bank account, then youâll get either a paper check or a debit card in the mail . You could also receive a payment by mail if your bank rejected a direct deposit. This could happen because the bank information was incorrect or the bank account on file with the IRS has since been closed.

The IRS urges taxpayers to be on the lookout for scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. To use the new app or get information, taxpayers should visit IRS.gov. These adjustments could cause your Card Account to have a negative balance.
If you do not have sufficient funds in your account to cover a Transaction or fee, theamount owed may be deducted from future credits to your Card Account and/or wemay seek reimbursement from you, your estate or beneficiaries.
