An Offset To Unemployment

The level of unemployment is equally staggering. Yet, the amount of stimulus across the the previous CARES and now, potentially, the HEROES Act may serve to counter-balance unemployment even at these extraordinarily high levels. This is because these stimulus amounts are so large they may more than offset the spike in unemployment for the short-term, at least. Both the spike in unemployment and the stimulus are unprecedented. Of course, if unemployment is not short-lived or claims rise much further, then the equation may not hold.

What Are Stimulus Checks

A stimulus check is an amount of money sent by the U.S. government to a taxpayer. These checks have the purpose of stimulating the economy, giving consumers some extra money that they can spend.

Once the consumers spend this money, it will boost the consumption and drive revenue towards manufacturers and retailers therefore, giving the economy a boost. Stimulus checks can be larger federal packages, as it was with the apparition of the 2020 CARES Act.

That being said, stimulus checks were used during the Great Depression as well a moment when the economy also found itself at a standstill. If the taxpayer has a recorded debit card, then they will receive their money into that account. However, in its absence, taxpayers can also receive stimulus checks in the mail.

Then, there are some states offering stimulus checks to help boost the local economies, with the likes of California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia New York and Tennessee having organised such legislation in 2021.

Looking into 2022, we’ll outline here what the key dates are in terms of the 2022 stimulus payments.

Nyc Sending Out Fourth Stimulus Check

Ground News

Stimulus checks for artists whove been hurt by the pandemic are a key piece of this effort. The New York City Artist Corps represents an historic investment in artists by the City of New York, reads a report from the city detailing the plan for these payments. CAC Grants support NYC-based artists who have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. By the programs end in October 2021, the program will distribute 1,800 one-time grants of $5,000 each to help artists sustain their practice and engage the public in thousands of cultural programs.

Meanwhile, the citys coronavirus-related financial aid plan also includes other components. NYC will spend more than $125 million, for example, to support and care for the citys homeless population. New York City also wants to help small businesses and in particular struggling restaurants. The city plans to offer more than $172 million in financial aid to these businesses with fewer than 100 employees.

What A New Round Of $1200 Stimulus Checks Would Mean For The Markets

Will there be a second round of stimulus checks and what could that mean for the markets?

ASSOCIATED PRESS

One notable aspect of the pandemic is how the markets have held up relatively well in comparison with other crises. Stimulus checks are one reason for that. Yes, unemployment is high, but giving out cash keeps the economy going. For example, researchers have suggested that the markets bottomed in March at around the time government launched major stimulus efforts.

HEROES Act

The bill that has passed Congress, but pending approval from the Senate, would provide $1,200 checks to Americans. Broadly, eight out of ten Americans would receive checks. Those with taxable income of under $75,000 for single filers, and under $150,000 for joint filers would typically be eligible for checks. Plus dependents would qualify for $1,200 too. In addition, the measure includes multiple other items to lessen the impact of COVID-19 on the U.S. economy including support for front-line workers, students and other significant tax breaks.

Critically, the legislation has yet to pass the Senate. It has passed the House. There is skepticism that the measure will become law in its current form, but many believe further stimulus is warranted.

Now, a second round of checks alone could cost $400 billion and the total cost of the bill could run to double that. These are significant numbers, especially when you consider that this is now a second round of stimulus.

When Is The Irs Deadline To Send New Stimulus Checks

What Is The Latest On The Second

At this point, the US treasury and the IRS are working fast to send all the stimulus checks as soon as possible. At the same time, they set a deadline for December 31st, 2021 to send out all of the payments.

In a way, this is good news this means they havent set a compressed deadline, meaning that should an issue appear, you have the time to address it. There is also the reassurance that since it wont be a rushed project, theres a lower chance of payments being missed or problematic.

At the same time, this means that numerous people may have to wait for a fair amount of time before they receive their stimulus check. Certain people have priority, but we have still much to learn about the IRS delivery system. In most cases, all we can do is wait as we track the stimulus check online.
