Millions Owed $3600 From Unclaimed $37billion

A report by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration has found the IRS failed to send advance child tax credits to 4.1million households, worth a total of $3.7billion.

After an eight-year bribery investigation by the Illinois Commerce Commission , eligible Illinois residents should see rebates on their April 2023 electricity bills.

The ICC has ruled that the utility company Commonwealth Edison must pay $38million to its customers.

ComEd paid a $200million fine to settle the federal investigation in 2020.

From the $38million pot, $31million will be directly refunded to customers as restitution while $7million will be allocated for customers through a federal regulatory process, according to the ICC.

Support For A Fourth Stimulus Check

A group of Democratic Senators, including Ron Wyden of Oregon, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Bernie Sanders of Vermont, sent a letter to President Joe Biden at the end of March requesting recurring direct payments and automatic unemployment insurance extensions tied to economic conditions.

As the Senators reasoned in their letter, this crisis is far from over, and families deserve certainty that they can put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads. Families should not be at the mercy of constantly-shifting legislative timelines and ad hoc solutions.

An earlier letter to President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris from 53 Representatives, led by Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, carved out a similar position. Recurring direct payments until the economy recovers will help ensure that people can meet their basic needs, provide racially equitable solutions, and shorten the length of the recession.

Additional co-signers included New Yorks Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Michigans Rashida Tlaib, two other notable names among House Progressives. The letter didnt place a number on the requested stimulus payments. But a tweet soon after put it at $2,000 per month for the length of the pandemic.

Colorado sent tax rebates of $750 to individual tax filers and $1,500 for joint filers. Colorado residents for the entire 2021 tax year who are 18 or older and filed their 2021 state income tax return were eligible for the payment.

Only physical checks were sent out in an effort to prevent fraud. Residents who filed their state tax returns by June 30 should have received a refund by September 30. Taxpayers who filed an extension can expect their check by January 31, 2023.

Who Is Eligible For The Second Stimulus Check

Eligibility is primarily based on four requirements:

1. Income: The income requirements to receive the full payment are the same as the first stimulus check.There is no minimum income needed to qualify for the payment. Households with adjusted gross income up to $75,000 for individuals will receive the full payment. This stimulus payment starts to phaseout for people with higher earnings. Stimulus Blamed For High Inflation

The final round of $1,400 direct payments which started in March 2021 along with the massive amounts of covid-19 relief funds injected into the US economy have been blamed for the higher-than-normal inflation afflicting the nation. The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco looked at the effect of the American Rescue Plan specifically on inflation.

It found that Bidens stimulus is temporarily ratcheting up inflation, but not causing overheating as has been suggested. Their analysis found that the ARP, is expected to cause inflation to increase by about 0.3 percentage point in 2021 and by a bit more than 0.2 percentage point in 2022. The impact in 2023 is negligible.

Other factors are helping push up prices on just about everything, a major source has been disruptions to supply chains caused by the pandemic. This caused manufacturers to scramble to secure scarce supplies of inputs to make their products.
