$1,400 stimulus check update: When could you get your third payment? | FOX 5 DC

As Voxs Fabiola Cineas and Ella Nilsen explained after Congress passed its previous round of direct payments, most people dont need to do anything to get a stimulus check. If you filed taxes in 2019 or 2020, meet the eligibility requirements, and included your direct deposit information, the payment should show up in your account in the coming weeks.

If your direct deposit information isnt on file with the IRS yet, you can still provide those details using IRSs Get My Payment tool before the latest wave of payments starts going out.

Third Round Of Stimulus Checks: March 2021

Barely a week after the second round of stimulus payments were completed, new president Joe Biden entered office and immediately unveiled his American Rescue Plan, which proposed a third of round of payments to Americans, including some of those who might have missed out on the first two rounds.

On Thursday 11 March, Biden signed his $1.9tn American Rescue Plan into law. The third payment provided eligible individual taxpayers for a check of up to $1,400, while couples filing jointly could receive a maximum of $2,800. In addition, families with dependents were eligible for an extra payment of $1,400 per dependent, regardless of the dependent’s age this time, there was no limit to the number of dependents that could be claimed for.

The first stimulus payments were issued swiftly – just hours after Biden has signed the bill, the first batch of 164 million payments, with a total value of approximately $386 billion, arrived by direct deposit in individuals bank accounts. Some received their payments on the weekend of 13/14 March 2021. Since then, payments had been sent on a weekly basis including “plus-up” payments until the end of the year. Like before, those who didn’t get all the EPI3 funds in 2021 due to them will be able to claim them when they file their tax returns in the spring of 2022.

The Chances Of More Stimulus Relief Diminish After Jan 3 2023

Finally, you should be aware that the chances of another federal stimulus payment will go down dramatically after Jan. 3, 2023. That’s when the new Congress will be sworn in, and Republicans will take control of the House of Representatives.

Since the GOP has not voted in favor of recent stimulus payments and Democrats will no longer be able to pass a COVID relief bill without their support, any additional federal stimulus aid is likely off the table.

You should be aware of these issues so you’ll know exactly how stimulus checks will affect your finances in the coming months.

You can request a payment trace to track where and how your payment was delivered. You should only request a payment trace if you received IRS Notice 1444 showing that your first stimulus check was issued or if your IRS account shows your payment amount and you havent received your first stimulus check. In offering most Americans two more rounds of stimulus checks in the past six months, totaling $2,000 a person, the federal government effectively conducted a huge experiment in safety net policy. Supporters said a quick, broad outpouring of cash would ease the economic hardships caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Skeptics called the policy wasteful and expensive.

The aid followed an earlier round of stimulus checks, sent a year ago, and the results are being scrutinized for lessons on how to help the needy in less extraordinary times.

Among households with children, reports of food shortages fell 42 percent from January through April. A broader gauge of financial instability fell 43 percent. Among all households, frequent anxiety and depression fell by more than 20 percent.
