Third Round Of Stimulus Checks: March 2021
Barely a week after the second round of stimulus payments were completed, new president Joe Biden entered office and immediately unveiled his American Rescue Plan, which proposed a third of round of payments to Americans, including some of those who might have missed out on the first two rounds.
On Thursday 11 March, Biden signed his $1.9tn American Rescue Plan into law. The third payment provided eligible individual taxpayers for a check of up to $1,400, while couples filing jointly could receive a maximum of $2,800. In addition, families with dependents were eligible for an extra payment of $1,400 per dependent, regardless of the dependent’s age this time, there was no limit to the number of dependents that could be claimed for.
The first stimulus payments were issued swiftly – just hours after Biden has signed the bill, the first batch of 164 million payments, with a total value of approximately $386 billion, arrived by direct deposit in individuals bank accounts. Some received their payments on the weekend of 13/14 March 2021. Since then, payments had been sent on a weekly basis including “plus-up” payments until the end of the year. Like before, those who didn’t get all the EPI3 funds in 2021 due to them will be able to claim them when they file their tax returns in the spring of 2022.
The Chances Of More Stimulus Relief Diminish After Jan 3 2023
Finally, you should be aware that the chances of another federal stimulus payment will go down dramatically after Jan. 3, 2023. That’s when the new Congress will be sworn in, and Republicans will take control of the House of Representatives.

Yes. For the third stimulus check, any household member that has an SSN qualifies for a payment.
This is different than the first and second stimulus check, where at least one tax filer must have an SSN for the household to claim the stimulus checks. That adult with the SSN and any qualifying children with SSNs will get the stimulus checks.

How Many Stimulus Checks Did Americans Get
In total, Americans received three stimulus checks since 2020.
The first round of checks was authorized under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, that President Donald Trump signed on March 27, 2020.
The payments for the first checks were $1,200 per person, or $2,400 for those filing jointly, plus $500 per qualifying child.
In December 2020, the second round of stimulus checks was sent out as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act.
The payments for the second checks were $600 per person, or $1,200 for married individuals, plus $600 for each qualifying child.
One year following the first checks, the third round of stimulus checks was sent out earlier in March under the American Rescue Plan.
The payments for the third checks was $1,400 per person, or $2,800 for married couples, plus an additional $1,400 per eligible child.

You can file a tax return even if you dont have a filing requirement to get other tax credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit.

How Will I Get My Payment If I Got A Refund Anticipation Check Or Refund Anticipation Loan When I Filed My Taxes
The IRS will attempt to deliver your payment to the account information provided on your tax return. Some RALs and RACs are issued through debit cards. If the card is still active, you will receive your payment on the card. If the account or card is no longer active, the deposit will be rejected, and the IRS will send a paper check to the address on the tax return.

Who Will Get A California Stimulus Check
You’re eligible to receive a California stimulus check payment if you:
- Filed a 2020 California income tax return by October 15, 2021
- Reported an adjusted gross income on your 2020 California tax return of $250,000 or less if you filed as a single person or married person filing a separate tax return, or $500,000 or less for anyone else
- Weren’t claimed as a dependent on anyone else’s 2020 tax return
- Were a California resident for at least six months in 2020 and
- Are a California resident on the date your payment is issued.
The California Franchise Tax Board has a handy online tool that lets you check your eligibility and get an estimate of your stimulus payment amount.

When Will The Third Stimulus Check Be Issued
The government started sending the third stimulus checks on March 12, 2021. The IRS continues to send third stimulus checks as people submit their information to the IRS either by filing a 2020 tax return or using GetCTC.org. The deadline to use GetCTC.org is November 15, 2022.
If you have your banking information on file, the IRS sent your payment via direct deposit. Otherwise, you will receive your payment as a check or debit card via mail. Mailed checks and debit cards may take longer to deliver.
If you dont fall into any of these categories, youll have to wait to receive your third stimulus check. You will need to file a 2020 federal tax return to get the third stimulus check or use GetCTC.org if you dont have a filing requirement.

The American Rescue Plan, signed into law on March 11, 2021, expanded the Child Tax Credit for 2021 to get more help to more families.
- It has gone from $2,000 per child in 2020 to $3,600 for each child under age 6.
- For each child ages 6 to 16, its increased from $2,000 to $3,000.
- It also now makes 17-year-olds eligible for the $3,000 credit.
- Previously, low-income families did not get the same amount or any of the Child Tax Credit. Under the American Rescue Plan, all families in need will get the full amount.
- To get money to families sooner, the IRS began sending monthly payments this year, starting in July.
- It is broken up into monthly payments, which means payments of up to $300 per child under age 6 and $250 per child ages 6 to 17.
- Youll get the remainder of the credit when you file your taxes next year.

The second relief package, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act , or Phase Two, was signed into law on March 18, 2020. The law allocated a budget for relief that included the following:
- Providing money for families who rely on free school lunches in light of widespread school closures
- Mandating that companies with fewer than 500 employees provide paid sick leave for those suffering from COVID-19, as well as providing a tax credit to help employers cover those costs
- Providing nearly $1 billion in additional unemployment insurance money for states, as well as loans to states to fund unemployment insurance
- Funding and cost waivers to make COVID-19 testing free for everyone
Separately, on March 18, 2020, the Federal Housing Administration and the Federal Housing Finance Agency implemented foreclosure and eviction moratoriums for single-family homeowners whose mortgages were FHA-insured or backed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. The eviction moratorium on FHA and other government-backed loans was extended to Sept. 30, 2021. Additionally, the FHFA announced on Sept. 24, 2021, that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac would continue to offer COVID-19 forbearance to multifamily property owners who were experiencing a financial hardship due to the COVID-19 emergency.

Among households with children, reports of food shortages fell 42 percent from January through April. A broader gauge of financial instability fell 43 percent. Among all households, frequent anxiety and depression fell by more than 20 percent.

SEATTLE If you have not received a previous stimulus payment, you can still get those dollars into your pocket through your tax return.
While most Americans wait to hear when they will receive $1,400 from a new stimulus package, some are still waiting for one of the first two checks.
It was crushing it was devastating. Everyone around was getting their money, said Zach Hudson.
Hudson said he got his first payment with no issue but still has not received a second stimulus check.
Hes reached out to the IRS. He said he sat on hold for hours, but still got no information.

The recovery rebate credit is available to people who have not received stimulus payments who qualify for them, said Isaiah Gresham.

Gresham is a tax expert and president of Gresham Financial. This year, hes asking clients directly if they received their stimulus payments because those dollars are there for you if you know how to get them.
Once we have that information when were filing their tax return, there is an opportunity for us to claim that credit for them. If they have not received the stimulus but they qualify, He said.
Gresham said you should be prompted with a similar question if you file your taxes online.
